Hi Everyone! It’s time for a Spellbinders Club Kits Blog Hop, where we showcase some more projects using the Club Kits released – this time for January 2022!

On my card project today, I’m focusing on the brand new Embossing Folder of the Month kit club, because I love love love embossing folders. This new club has been SUPER popular and Spellbinders has said that the response has been so overwhelming this Club has sold out. They will try to bring this design back again at a later time (check the “Past Clubs” section). Be sure to sign up for their Clubs right away on the 1st of the month not to miss out on any future designs.

I wanted to really make the folder the star of the card, and ink smushing is a technique I’ve not done in a long while – a great pairing!

I first dry embossed a panel of watercolor paper with the embossing folder, being sure to line up the hearts in the centre. I then smushed some Distress inks onto a plastic palette and spritzed with water – I am using Worn Lipstick, Kitsch Flamingo and Picked Raspberry, with a little touch of Shaded Lilac. I then picked up the ink with the dry embossed panel, smushing it down into the ink. I dried it, and repeated twice more. I also splattered a little gold metallic ink spray. When dry, I re-ran the panel through the Platinum 6 with the folder to flatten out the panel while keeping the hearts.

I used a gold pigment inkpad, and lightly rubbed it over the hearts to really define their edges. I then trimmed down the panel to a little smaller than A2 and adhered to a white notecard, leaving a border.

The focal image is a die from the January 2022 Large Die of the Month kit club. I die cut it from white cardstock five times and adhered them all together to create a thicker piece which I then adhered to the card panel. I also used the offcuts of the watercolored piece and die cut the coordinating flower petals from it. While the piece was dry embossed, die cutting flattens it out but it still matches my background. I popped the petals up on the heart with foam tape for a little dimension.

For my sentiment I used an older die set (October 2021 Small Die of the Month Mix & Match Sentiments), and die cut ‘hello’ and ‘love’ from Gold Mirror cardstock and vellum, layered together. I then popped them up on foam tape over the top. I finished with a few Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems to finish.

You might also see the envelope peeping out – this is one I made earlier this month, it has one of the January Glimmer of the Month sentiments hot foiled on it in Matte Gold. Love how professional this looks!
