Hi there everyone! It’s Paint-A-Flower release day, AND there are some fabulous extra goodies being released by Altenew today that I’ve been waiting to share – you might have caught a couple of sneak peeks earlier this month, and now they can be revealed! Today’s post is part of a blog hop. If you didn’t land here from Teresa Litchfield‘s blog, head on over to Altenew’s blog to start at the beginning.

The new Paint-A-Flower is the Himalayan Poppy! It’s perfect for pairing with the brand new Hawaiian Shores Fine Tip Pens! These are double ended with a pointed tip and a super fine tip and are watersoluble, so you can also watercolor with them. That’s what I did to color in my poppies.

I first stamped the poppies on Bristol Smooth cardstock in Obsidian Pigment Ink, and heat embossed it with Translucent Pearl embossing powder, which is clear, with a little sparkle.

To paint, I laid down color in the edges/shadow areas, and then pulled out with a wet brush. I used lighter yellow and oranges, layering them over each other. I also added a little of the red in the folds for contrast. I colored the leaves in the same way with the greens. When finished, I fussy cut out the image.

For the background, I used a panel of Navy cardtock, dry embossed with the Beautiful Baroque 3D embossing folder. I lightly rubbed the Antique Gold pigment ink pad over the top, and added a few splatters of Antique Gold Metallic Ink Spray. I then mounted the poppies over the center with foam tape.

The sentiment was stamped on white in Obsidian ink, trimmed out and popped on top. A few Antique Gold Sequins here and there finished the look

There are also a couple of other exciting new products also part of this release, this first one the most exciting of all – coloring pencils!! These are woodless (similar to the watercolor pencils released earlier) and come in a gorgeous box of 32, complete with tips on using them!

You might have noticed I used pencils to color the Elegant Motifs rose earlier in the month – well I used these pencils!! They’re woodless and come in a gorgeous box – absolutely LOVE them, and they color beautifully. Here’s a wider look at the card I created with them. You can see the blog post HERE.

Altenew is also release Monochrome Shading Pencils! These are varying levels of hardness, and perfect for shading images or adding dark touches!

I used the In The Woodland stamp set from a recent release and added cross hatching shading to the petals using the Monochrome Shading Pencils. I first heat embossed the image in Antique Silver then used the blending stencil to blend on color – I used Frosty Pink, and Coral Berry. I also added some green left on my detailed blender brush for the leaves, and gold/silver gel pen in the centres.

Using the Monochrome Pencils I added some hash marks for sketchy shading in certain areas, then die cut out the piece. I overlaid it onto a dry embossed background, dry embossed with Bold Floral Drape, spritzed with Antique Silver Metallic Spray. I then heat embossed the sentiment in Pure White on Jet Black cardstock to finish.

And if all of that wasn’t enough, Altenew is also release masking fluid! I haven’t yet played with it yet but can’t wait to try!
