Hi Everyone!
Have you tried hot foiling with Spellbinders Glimmer system yet? I’ve been foiling for a couple of years now, and one of the techniques I like to do, particularly if I have hot foil plates without a coordinating die, is to create a background by repeat hot foiling. This is much easier to do than you might think, and I’m using the August 2021 Glimmer Kit Club set for my card today.
The set contains two hot foil plates that feature pretty florals. To create a repeat background, I took a panel of white glossy cardstock and trimmed out Rose Gold Glimmer foil just larger than the floral plates. I first lined up the plates on the panel and created hinge using Spellbinders tape, then slipped the Rose Gold foil underneath and adhered down, then placed it on the Glimmer system to foil it. The hinge enables you to repeat foil in the exact same place with a new piece foil without the plate shifting if you need to. Glossy cardstock is amazing for foiling!
Here’s a close up – you can see the gorgeous letterpress you also get as the plate pushes into the panel. I used both of the plates to repeat this process, (I foil one at a time) until the entire panel was covered. You can even hang plates of the edge of your cardstock, just ensure they stay on the gray part of your Glimmer system. By rotating the plates, you can almost interlock them to fit around the previously foiled images on the panel.
When the panel was covered, I trimmed it to 4″ x 5.25″ and adhered to a white notecard with craft foam. I also foiled the sentiment and sentiment border from the set with Matte Silver Glimmer foil on a fuchsia cardstock, and cut out with the coordinating die, then mounted into the centre of the glimmered panel.
To finish, I added a few Crystal Mix Color Essentials gems scattered around to keep it clean and simple but add a little sparkle!
