Hi everyone, I hope your week is going well. With everything we’ve all been going through this past 11 months, sending cards has become more important for me than ever. I’ve certainly gotten better at actually popping them in the mail and letting people know that even though I can’t meet them in person, my card can! How about you? Are you sending more cards recently?

Today I’m featuring three cards that all were all made with someone in mind before I made them. They all feature the Spellbinders Kit Clubs of the Month for February – the Large Die, Small Die, and Glimmer. Spellbinders sends me these as part of my design work and I still look forward to the ‘reveal’ day in the mail!

My first card features the Large Die of the Month. This set features large number dies in a classic font, and ‘th’ and ‘st’, great for dates and anniversaries. It also has coordinating bold sentiment to go with it. I wanted to use this set to create a 75th Birthday card for my Father-in-Law who’s birthday is in March. (Stay tuned this week as I’ll have another male birthday card coming up for my own Dad!).

To create my card, I did all of my die cutting first. I used a stacked dies approach for dimension – stacking 5 die cuts together with liquid glue. I die cut the ‘Happy’ from purple cardstock – they all cut separately so great for changing up the layout. I die cut the 7 and 5 from a gray-green cardstock as well as from gold mirror which I trimmed in half for a ‘gold dipped’ look. I die cut the ‘th’ twice from gold mirror also and stacked onto the green.

My background is dark gray, dry embossed with the FSJ Love Stripes embossing folder, which I splattered with a few drops of gold spray. I then adhered the panel over a pale gray-kraft background with foam tape. I eyeballed the layout of the sentiment and numbers, overlapping the letters in happy with different thicknesses foam tape. Pretty cool!

For my second card, I am using the Small Die of the Month, which features a mini slimline die with intricate details, and optional sentiments/shapes to insert in the windows. I’ve not made a mini slimline before, and thought it would be super cute for happy mail for one of my cardmaking friends perfectly sized for light mail, but also the ‘Hello’ sentiment is great to bulk up your stash with and just check in with people in a more personal way.

To create my card, I die cut the main border die 3 times from black cardstock, and adhered to a white card base. This is cut to 4.25 x 5.5 and scored in half – super cute! I die cut each of the inlaid items from a hot pink cardstock (they’re all different so you can mix and match), then adhered them inside the little windows so they are a different dimension to the black stacked dies.

I created a custom sentiment using the Hello die in the set. I die cut it twice from gold mirror cardstock and trimmed off the border. I stacked them together with liquid glue and adhered to the centre window, aligning up the letters with the border. Of course, I had to get some of the Gold Embellishment dots in this post somewhere and they were perfect for the border of this card!

So for my final card I’m featuring the Glimmer of the Month, and this is one is definitely something you need in your essentials if you enjoy hot foiling. It’s a set of nesting borders, and they’re gorgeous – I had the perfect excuse to break out my favorite Glimmer of the Month of all time, ‘Have a Colorful Day’ – that cute little rainbow (which you can now buy as a separate plate set) seemed just perfect to use with those borders which totally look like little rainbows. My daughter (who is 5) is giving this to her friend for her birthday! 5 year old girls (and 40 year old girls) love rainbows!

I glimmered the largest border in Matte Gold hot foil onto white cotton letterpress cardstock, then the second sized border in Rainbow Foil. I then glimmered that little rainbow in the centre in Matte Gold. I used one of the pretty sentiments that are also included in this month’s Glimmer of the month with the Rainbow Foil to keep this almost a one layer card.

I decided to trim out the outer border by fussy cutting around the curves (actually a lot easier than it sounds), and then mounted it onto a notecard with foam tape. To finish, I added a few sparkly jewels! Ah so happy I got out my rainbow foil!
