Hello there everyone! I hope everyone’s 2021 has gotten off to a good start. Ours was a quiet celebration – just the three of us at home. We celebrated with champagne and we filled up a champagne glass with Lime La Croix for our 5 year old so she could pretend (at 9pm. LOL!) I have made some new year’s resolutions – one is to read 12 books this year. It might not sound like much, but I read about 1 or 2 this year – I used to read on my train ride to the city about 2 hours a day, but with the pandemic haven’t done that as my commute is about 5 mins walk downstairs now! So let’s see what happens!

For todays card, I’m featuring the Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders. All of the sets this month are just gorgeous and feature hearts (Valentine’s is coming!) but the large die this month features the gorgeous kaleidoscope type layering dies Spellbinders has become known for and that I absolutely love.

There are three heart dies in the LDOTM that layer on top of each other to create this kaleidoscope look. I used a color combo of white (for the base) against a pale spa blue-gray, dusky rose and Fun Stampers Journey mirror gold cardstock. The pink and blue-gray are from my scraps draw (dies are perfect for grabbing your scraps!) I die cut all the heart layers and then used liquid glue to adhere all of them together.

For the main large die, I cut it twice – from the blue-gray and also from some white cardstock to give it a little sturdiness. I adhered them together with liquid glue. This die fits just onto a platform on your Spellbinders Platinum 6, but i recommend rolling it in half way, then out, flipping the platform around and rolling it in again in order to get a complete cut. I do this for all of my slim line dies (this one measures 3.5″ by 8.5″).

I created a card base from 110lb cardstock trimmed 8.5″ x 7″ scored in half at 3.5″ I adhered the main heart die to the panel. I then popped in each of the hearts using slivers of foam squares for a little dimension.

The die set includes a few leaves and flower dies, so using the same cardstocks, I cut them out too and adhered them around the hearts. I added a few FSJ Fashion Gold Embellishments to the centres, and then also in a couple of random places. Be sure to curl the leaves a little with your Tool-in-One!

To finish, I actually glimmered a sentiment from the Glimmer of the Month kit (stay tuned for another post featuring that set) which I glimmered on the blue gray cardstock using Matte Gold Glimmer foil, then die cut it out with the sentiment strip die in the same set, and mounted on foam tape.

Spellbinders really knocked it out of the park with this month’s January kits don’t you think? I’m excited to share the next few projects this month too so stay tuned.
