Hello friends!

It’s the day of the new Pinkfresh Studio release and I’m so excited to share this one with you! It’s a layering stencils extravaganza. I just adore these stencils as they help you make beautifully colored images super quickly (and who doesn’t love using their ink pads for coloring in!) This release also has coordinating dies for for some of the stenciled images which is awesome. Today’s post is part of a release blog hop – all the stops (and giveaway details) are at the end of this post so stay tuned.

Here’s a look at the new release in all its glory.

Today I’m focusing my first card on the Overlapping Leafy Wreath stencils. This layering set of four stencils can be combined to form this beautiful wreath, and there is a coordinating die to cut it out! I found that die cutting first, then doing my ink blending helped me line up the layers perfectly with the die. I used a sheet of handmade watercolor paper, and die cut it with the wreath. I then used different green inks to ink blend the image building up the layers. I used Fresh Pear, Grassy Knoll, Evergreen and Mint. I also added a touch of water to each of the layers with a watercolor brush to give a very slight watercolor look to the blended images.

For my background, I’m using the new Diamond Plaid layering stencil (which is similar to the recently released slimline version but this fits perfectly for an A2 card). I used purple to contrast with the green wreath – blending the first layer in Soft Lilac, then the second layer in Candy Violet.

To add a little subtle sparkle, I ran an embossing ink pad around the edges of the plaid panel and heat embossed with antique gold embossing powder before mounting the wreath onto the panel with foam squares. My sentiment is from the Phrase Builder Happy Holidays die set, using vellum and cooridinating heat embossed gold layers which I then adhered to the wreath. To finish I added a few Essentials: Crystals to look a little like wreath berries!

My next card features the Mountainscape slimline layering stencil (one of two slimline stencils in the release).

I wanted to do an aurora borealis look behind the mountains in the scene – this is surprisingly easy to do I promise! Using the first stencil layer with just an opening for the sky over Neenah Solar White cardstock, I took a few different colors of inks that you often see in that amazing sky light show – I am using Mint, Lemon Whip and Ballet Slipper. I used a blending brush and holding it down on the stencil (on the mountain toops) I swept my wrist up in a flicking motion, building up the colors. I left gaps between them in most places, then came in with Stargazer to repeat this and fill in those gaps. I also blended Stargazer down from the top to deepen the ‘sky’ in the background.

For the mountain layer I blended the mountains in Stargazer and used a slightly lighter hand on the snow drifts. The third layer, I blended the trees in Evergreen ink, and I spritzed the stars with a Sparkle Shimmer Spray for a very faint sprinkle of stars and the moon.

I finished by stamping a sentiment that goes perfectly from the You Are Amazing stamp set then mounted onto a white card base. You’ll see I trimmed out the image without a white border, but the stencils layer to create a white border around your image to frame it if you want to keep that look too!
