Hi Folks!
It’s time for a new month and a new challenge over on the WOW! Embossing Powder Fans Facebook page. This month we are asking you to dig out your embossing glitter and glintzes! The embossing glintz range from WOW! are some of my favorite powders. They’re subtle and perfect for adding a touch of shine to sentiments without reaching for the usual white, and they are also gorgeous for watercoloring. You might remember this card from a few months ago where I used Mayan Glintz for watercoloring. Well this time I wanted to try out Oyster Glintz, which is a beautiful sheeny creamy white.
To create my card I first dry embossed a panel of black cardstock. The embossing folder is an ollllld one from my stash by Cuttlebug. I then adherered this to a white cardbase and set aside.
On a panel of Artistico Fabriano Hot Press watercolor cardstock (smoothest watercolor cardstock so great for embossing) I stamped the Massive Peony by Gina K Designs in WOW! Embossing ink and heat embossed in Oyster Glintz.
I used Mijello Mission Gold to watercolor my image. For each petal and leaf, I laid down clean water, letting it well up between the embossed lines, and then dropped my lightest color in with a paint brush. I let it wick out and helped it to spread. I then came in with a medium coloring from the area closest to the shadow, and then just a small amount of the darker color, using a thirsty brush to encourage the colors to blend. I like to show a mix of different colors on a petal – for the main bloom I used Opera Pink and Yellow. They blend to make a beautiful peach color. I also went around the outside Indigo, heavily darkened.
When dry, I fussy cut out the peony leaving a small border. I saw Yana Smakula do this with navy background and Copics. By edging the main image with the same as the background color, fussy cutting will blend in, and it almost looks like you watercolored on the dark cardstock itself – really cool! I popped the Peony up onto my black card panel.
I attached the ‘Sending Smiles’ sentiment which I had left over from a previous card making blitz – it is from the Taylored Expressions Friendship Simple Strips, heat embossed in WOW! Metallic Silver.
As a finishing touch, I used some Nuvo Dream Drops in Cloud 9, which go perfectly with the Oyster Gintz!
