Morning everyone! Welcome to a brand new collection of Altenew’s Marvelous Monthly Series featuring all of their subscription sets. You should have been sent here by Mindy Eggen – stay tuned for details of the prizes up for grabs!!

My first pair of projects feature the brand new Craft Your Life Project Kit – Floral Acanthus. This is a gorgeous project kit with big glorious swoops and blooms, with that wonderful feathery look. I especially love these when it comes to the coloring stencil as they work so well together.

As you can see, I went with a yellow, black, orange and red color theme – I wanted to go bold here. I first dry embossed two backgrounds with the Embossing Folder from the kit – a Jet Black panel and a white panel that I ink blended with Marigold and Snapdragon Crisp Dye Inks. I also added Orange Cream Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray splatters onto the panels- you can see how different they look on light and dark cardstocks.

I stamped all of the images from the stamp set in the project kit in Jet Black Crisp Dye Ink, and then used the coloring stencil to color them all ink. The other inks I used (including those mentioned above) were Blush, Coral Bliss and Vineyard Berry. I also added touches of white gel pen here and there and then die cut them all out with the dies from the kit.

I arranged the die cuts onto the dry embossed panels with foam tape. For the ink blended panel, I die cut the ‘hugs’ sentiment from gold mirror cardstock and vellum, adhered together and popped onto the top. For the black panel, I stamped a simple sentiment in Obsidian Pigment ink, trimmed it out and adhered over the top.

To finish, I added a scattering of Satin Gold Sequins here and there – and you’ll see I didn’t trim off overhanging excess die cuts – you can of course if you’re mailing!

My next card features the new Build-A-Garden: Pristine Peonies set. I went bold again, with my favorite combo of blues and hot pinks, using Altenew’s Watercolor Brush Markers. I first heat embossed the main image with Rose Gold Crisp Embossing Ink onto Bristol Smooth watercolor cardstock. I also embosssed a sentiment from the set at the same time and trimmed out for later.

I then used the brush markers, first to draw a line in the darkest area (where leaves meet the flowers or where they overlap) then pulled out the color with a wet brush, building up the color in the darker areas. I did the same in the flower iteself. I’m using the Spring Garden set, with Dusk and Rubellite. The colors are very intense so you only need a little bit to pull out the color.

For my background, I used a panel of teal cardstock, dry embossed with the Spring Blossoms 3D embossing folder which I splattered with Sea Glass Metallic Shimmer Ink Spray (it shows up silver on darker cardstock). I then adhered the floral and the sentiment, trimming off the excess. I finished with a few Rose Gold sequins.

My next card features the new Paint-A-Flower: Hibiscus Outline. As I’d created using ink blending and watercolor, I decided I was going to grab my Artist Markers. I used Space Garden (for the leaves) and Island Garden for the petals. I stamped the image down onto X-Press It cardstock with Permanent Black ink which is great for use with alcohol markers. I also stamped the sentiment.

I tried to build in folds in the petals, by adding in darker feathery flicks here and there where the outline ‘crinkles’ – basically just drawing in smaller and smaller trianges with darker and darker colors. I then go back over the entire petal once with the lightest color. I outlined the entire image with a pale blue just to give that hint of sky. I finished with Antique Gold Ink Spray splatters with a very fine paintbrush.

My final card feature the new Craft-A-Flower: Tulip Full Bloom. I die cut all of the pieces from white cardstock and colored them all ink with ink blending, in some cases using my small blenders and also my mini blenders. For the leaves, I used the Green Valley set of inks, and for the florals I used the Red Cosmos set. You’ll see I added shadows here and there in the flower centres and edges of the petals and leaves where I thought the darker pieces would fall. I used the packaging as a guide.

For my background, I die cut the Detailed Web cover panel die from cream cardstock and adhered to a white notecard with thin foam strips round the border outline. I then adhered my flowers which I largely had glued together already, following the ingenious little notches that Altenew has now added to its Craft-A-Flowers to make things easier. The sentiment was heat embossed in Rose Gold Embossing Powder and I had it left over from my initial stamping of the One-Go Birthday Greetings stamp (and die set). I finished with a few clear drops here and there to look like dew drops.
