Hi Everyone!! Are you ready to be inspired by a host of new stand-alone embossing folders from Altenew? Today’s Whimsical Fairy Tale Blog Hop is going to do just that – hopefully you were sent my way by Cheryl Espie! If not, I highly recommend grabbing your favorite cuppa and popping over to the start over on the Altenew Blog.

As you know I have always loved Embossing Folders, so always REALLY enjoy playing with them, especially Altenew’s which are always deep, three dimensional folder – and today’s are very cool! For my first card, I’m featuring the Peony Sunshine Embossing Folder. I wanted to try to paint the entire bloom like I’ve seen the amazing Erum try out – it always looked super tricky – but I was really surprised how straightforward it was. I used the 12 Pan Essential Watercolor Set, and Altenew’s Watercolor Paper, dry embossing the floral onto the paper.

I then mixed up my colors, and added the first pale layer of color, not worrying about doing each petal separately, but just adding a wash of color, letting some of it gather in the creases and folds. When dry, I added another layer, closer towards the base of the petals and in the ‘wells’ and ‘nooks’ for the shadow area, using slightly thicker paint. I repeated that again and added even more depth, leaving the outer petals light.

I did the same with the leaves using green, and then I also painted the background in blue, fading out towards the edges. Where I needed a little more dimension I used the Hawaiian Shores Fine Tip Marker Pens and added lines in a few of the deep shadow areas. To add more of that handpainted look, I added lots of white splatters. The sentiment is from the Signature Words Die Set, cut three times and layered together for a little more sturdiness.

I also painted the next Embossing Folder – this one is called ‘Eggcentric’ and is a little more funky. I dry embossed it onto a panel of black watercolor cardstock which I had painted with stripes of Metallic Watercolors – these show up great on black watercolor paper and I did two layers (letting them dry inbetween) for a more intense color, letting the colors blend together slightly. Where the dry embossing pops through, it goes dark again – kinda cool look! I added a few splatters of gold too.

The sentiment is the Way To Go die, cutting both the ‘You Rock’ and the main sentiment from black cardstock, and holographic cardstock, then mounting on the embossed panel with foam tape. I mounted the entire piece onto a white notecard, leaving a border.

If you look closely, you’ll see that this project features two of the embossing folders released today – I saw the Scalloped Frame Embossing Folder and just had to create a shaker with it. I die cut a circle, similar sized to the window in the front of the embossing folder frame and die cut it from a panel of Navy cardstock in the centre of the panel. (Die cut then dry emboss, otherwise you’ll squish all your lovely dry embossing!). I lined up my circle with the embossing folder and ran it through – et voila! A gorgeous frame!

I lightly rubbed the scallops with the Enchanted Gold Pigment Ink Pad then flipped it over and adhered a panel of acetate on the back, followed by a double layer of foam tape, all around the outer edge of the circle (with no gaps).

I dry embossed another panel of Navy Cardstock with the Folktale Birds embossing folder and then added a pile of blue and purple sequins from my stash onto the centre, before overlaying the window panel over the top, ceiling the two together. This gave me a classy shaker window with those folkbirds peeping through! I finished with another Signature Words die, cut from Gold Mirror cardstock and adhered directly onto the window.

My final card is SO quick to create. I used the new Double Rainbow Stencil – it’s super fine so I recommend using a temporary spray adhesive like Pixie Spray to overlay onto your cardstock. I did just that, and spritzed liberally with Frosty Pink and Soft Lilac Metallic Shimmer Ink Sprays. When I removed the stencil I was left with a fun pale shimmery rainbow look. I die cut it with the Mix & Match Frames die. Keeping it simple, I stamped this sentiment from Crafty Life in Obsidian Pigment Ink directly over the top. I added a few crystals and adhered the panel to a white notecard with foam tape to finish.
