Hi Everyone!

Gina K Designs has a new release revealed and just gone live in the store tonight! I had the great luck to snag the new Spring Mountain stamp set designed for the new release by Hannah Drapinski. I’m not sure if Hanna had a specific place in mind, but the scene reminds me of the Swiss Alps I visited as a teenager. Phenomenal towering white mountains over gorgeous green hillsides of spring flowers. Totally stunning and very calming – just like coloring it in.

To create my scene, I first stamped and heat embossed it on a hot press panel of watercolor cardstock – this makes for easier blending and I hadn’t decided exactly how I was going to color the scene. I used masking tape to mask off the frame edges onto my craft mat, then stamped the image again with darker ink onto a sheet of masking paper. I wanted to mask off the sky to do a little ink bleding. By trimmering off the mountains and grass, I created a perfect edge around the sky.

I ink blended yellow up from the mountains and towards the centre. I then used light blue from the top down to the centre, being careful not to overlap (to avoid a green sky). I added a touch of pink into the blue towards the yellow to show the sun coming up (or going down) behind the mountains, and then when I lifted the masking I was able to reveal crisp white mountains. I largely left the mountains alone, adding a touch of gray here and there for shadow using Zig Clean Color Brush markers, first with dark, then blending out a little with light gray.

For the flowers hill side, it was so detailed that the heat embossing lost a lot of the imager (even though it was fine embossing powder) so I stamped the image once more, in permanent black ink (copic friendly) onto X-Press It paper. I colored the flowers and grass with alcohol markers, adding detail with white gel pen, then trimmed it out and popped it up on the original hillside to cover it up, using foam tape for adding a little dimension. I finally removed the masking tape and popped up the frame onto a white note card with foam tape. Love this sentiment from the set – there are plenty to choose from – this one was my fave!!
