Hi there! It’s President’s Day here in the USA and for me that means a day off! The kids are playing video games, and I had a chance to craft undisturbed! The weather has started to warm ever so slightly (for today anyway) and the sun is glinting through the window, which by the way, is the perfect time to create hot foiled cards! Why? Because they are SO SHINY in that mid afternoon sun!

Today I’m featuring the Spellbinders Spring Into Glimmer Collection, a centre piece of which are the gorgeous Glimmer Edge Butterflies. These are awesome – when die cut the hot foiling goes right up to the edge of the shape without an outline. I love this look and the shapes really stand out against the cardstock backgrounds!

I created my cards first by glimmering all of my butterflies. I knew I was going to be creating a pair of cards, one slimline and one A2 size, so I needed several of both the large and small butterflies. I used a variety of Glimmer hot foils – for the slimline I used Magenta, Lavender Petal and Fuchsia Flower. For the smaller card I used Speckled Aura. I glimmered them all on glossy white cardstock, using the ‘hinge’ method (adhering the foil plate with a strip of tape first to create a ‘hinge’) so that I could foil them twice without the plate shifting. The images are fairly solid so I wanted to be sure to get a solid impression. And wow, they are shiny!

I die cut them all out with the coordinating dies, then die cut the butterflies bodies – from pale gold glitter cardstock for the pinks and purples, and Onyx cardstock for the Speckled Aura. I adhered them in place and set the butterflies to one side.

I also glimmered a pair of sentiments from the Sentiments for Everyday set in the new collection, on white glossy cardstock using Matte Gold Glimmer hot foil. Most of these sentiments also have a paired die cut outline which I also used.

For my backgrounds I used Alabaster cardstock, dry embossed with the Simply Perfect Florets, and Slimline Flora embossing folders, trimmed to slimline (3 x 8) and A2 (4 x 5.25″) and adhered to white notecards. I arranged my butterflies and sentiments onto the backgrounds using foam squares under the wings and a dab of glue on the body. I could then push down the body and have the wings angle upwards for a fun little dimensional element.

On the slimline card, I scattered some Crystal Mix Color Essentials throughout the background. The colors really pull out those purples in the glimmer foils!

For my smaller card, I also due cut and layered some of the little flowers from the Glimmer Edge Butterflies set. I used white cardstock for the petals, gold holo cardstock (Erin Lee Creative) for the centres, and Onyx for the leaves to tie in with the bodies. I also scattered a few Gold Mix Color Essentials Crystals to finish.

I love how these turned out, and it was also fun picking out my glimmer foils instead of always reaching for the Matte Gold. That Speckled Aura has to be seen in real life!!
