The new Bibi’s Butterflies Collection from Spellbinders is simply stunning. Bibi Cameron has designed the perfect butterfly collection to create with. I was lucky enough to snag a few products to play with and am excited to share three projects with you today. Stencilling, pop-ups, die-cutting – there are so many ways to use the products.

My first card features the Pop-Up Butterfly die set. I LOVE this. You can create a pop up butterfly in the centre of the inside of your card, so that when the recipient opens it up, there’s the butterfly folding out. It’s so pretty, and a gorgeous surprise.

I created the wings with powdered shimmery watercolors (Lindy’s Magicals) in pinks, purples and blues. I dropped them into a wet panel, letting them spread out. When dry, I die cut it with the solid wings from the die set. I also die cut the wings outline from Navy cardstock. I cut off the tabs as shown in Bibi’s how-to video, and then adhered to the solid wings with glue . I die cut the body from holographic cardstock, folded and adhered to the centre.

Finally, I folded the pop out mechanism as shown in the video, adhered it to the butterfly wings and then adhered to the inside of my folded A2 size white card with double sided tape strips.

Of course, I had also decorated the front of the card. I used the Geometric Butterfly Stencil, placing it at an angle, and ink blending similar colors to the magics lightly over the panel. I also added some touches of metallic gel pen here and there as well as outlining the butterfly before removing it. I also added some shimmer spray splatters in a few places.

The sentiment is from the Sentiments for Everyday set, glimmered in Matte Gold onto glossy black cardstock. I embellished with the Crystal Mix Color Essentials jewels to finish!

My second card uses the stencil again, but this time, I stencilled with the powder watercolors! This is a super easy trick to achieve. Adhere the stencil down to some watercolor cardstock – I recommend using a removable adhesive spray like Pixie Spray to adhere the stencil, so that water won’t seep under the stencil. I spritzed the stencil a few times with a water mister then removed the stencil. I then tapped on the powdered watercolors here and there. You can do that before or after you remove the stencil but I prefer after. If the powder lands on an area that doesn’t have water, you can simply blow it away after the piece has dried.

I also added a few splatters here and there, then when it dried, trimmed it down to A2, and fussy cut around the right hand side of the butterfly. As an afterthought, I also reapplied the stencil, and added a layer of iridescent glitter paste.

I dry embossed a panel of navy cardstock with the Sun Rays Embossing Folder, then adhere the dried butterfly panel over the top with foam tape. I added a few iridescent shimmer spray splatters and added another sentiment glimmered in Matte Gold from the Sentiments for Everyday set. I also embellished a few Fashion Gold Embellishments to finish.

For my final card, I actually used up an old dry embossed panel from my scrap drawer. I created it a couple of years ago with alcohol inks on white Yupo Paper, then dry embossed it with an older Spellbinders embossing folder. I really liked the color of the background and thought it would pair perfectly with butterflies for this set of cards. I die cut the outlines from the Delicate Butterflies die set using holographic cardstock, and the bodies from black cardstock then adhered them together.

I adhered each of the butterflies just on the bodies to the dry embossed panel, and also added Nuvo Crystal Glaze over the bodies. The sentiment is from the Sentiments for Everyday glimmered in Prism foil onto glossy black cardstock and die cut. I mounted it with foam tape to the card and then finished with a few purple and blue-black crystals onto the panel to finish!

I love how this trio pops off the page, and shines with the gloss of all of the different cardstocks and foils! Thank you Bibi for creating such a gorgeous collection of beautiful butterflies for us to play with!
