Hello friends, I hope you’re doing well today wherever you are in the world. Many of you are in my thoughts right now in these tough times.

Today Altenew is hosting the Flowers & Swirls release blog hop, releasing new stand-alone dies – my favorite kind of dies. If you weren’t sent along to my blog by the amazing Vicky Papaioannou then I highly recommend starting over at the Altenew Blog to get the full hop in all it’s inspirational glory!

This is a really eclectic release, with something for everyone! I had tons of ideas and am sharing a few here, but you’ll certainly see these popping up again on future card-making videos!

My first card is inspired by my fellow Altenew design teamie the amazing Emily Midgett. I love how she pairs unusual background cardstock colors with soft florals and I decided to give it a try. My background is a tealy-green cardstock from my stash and I paired it with the new Magnolia Ballerina stamp and die set. I stamped it in Jet Black ink, then colored it in using the coordinating Simple Coloring Stencil with a variety of pinks including Fuchsia and Baby Pink. I used Fresh Lemon and Honey Drizzle in the centre, a touch of Honey Drizzle on the stem, and Milk Chocolate on the edges (easily done with Detailed Blending Brushes!) I then die cut it out.

I adhered the die cut to my teal panel with foam tape and scattered a few Satin Gold Sequins around the panel. My sentiment was heat embossed in Gold Crisp Embossing Powder onto a strip of teal and popped over the top. I also added a little Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the centres to make them shine! (The eagle-eyed amongst you will maybe recognize this card as my sneaky-peak on the Altenew Instastories takeover last month!)

My next card features the Magnolia Ballerina again, this time the 3D Embossing Folder. I decided to carry on the theme of colored cardstock backgrounds and used a dark rusty red panel this time, dry embossed with the Magnolia folder. I lightly ran some white pigment ink over the top to highlight the image, and added a few splatters of Pure White Ink Spray.

I used the new Wispy Feathers Layered Die Set, die cut from white cardstock and Gold Mirror cardstock and adhered together. I poppped it up on the card panel and added a few Satin White Sequins here and there. I finished with a stamped sentiment from the Magnolia stamp set in Obsidian ink.

I went super bright with my next card! I created a panel of cardstock using Green Valley Slim Washi tape, which I adhered diagonally on white cardstock, repeating the colors until the panel was covered. I then die cut it with the new Dainty Leaves die. I also die cut it three more times from white cardstock and adhered them together.

I mounted the leaf onto a panel of Warm Sunshine cardstock and stamped the sentiment from the Magnolia Ballerina directly onto the panel in Obsidian. I also added a few splatters of Jet Black Spray with a fine paintbrush.

For my last card, I paired the new Edged Wildflower die with patterned paper, letting it peep through! My background features the Alcohol Ink Backgrounds patterned paper which I trimmed to A2 size and adhered it to a notecard.

I then die cut the Edged Wildflower from an A2 panel of white cardstock, moving the edge in approx 1.75 inches from the left edge. I adhered it with glue directly to the panel and stamped one of the sentiments in Obsidian ink directly on to it. To finish, I used a few bright yellow enamel dots, which I thought really bring out that yellow in the upper right corner of the panel.

  1. All of your cards are so pretty. I can’t decide which is my favorite. I love the pop of the first card on the teal background. There is something about that honey yellow flower center that draws my eye. The feather on that soft embossed background is so soothing. The green sprig on the yellow just shouts spring and joy. And the final card with that lovely alcohol ink paper is stunning. I’ll take them all. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Hi, Jenny – These are lovely! My two favorites (though all of them are lovely and each has its own charms) are the first (Magnolia Ballerina) and the last (with that alcohol ink background). WOW! SO GOOD!
