Hi Everyone!
Today I’m excited to share two cards that incorporate a LOT of leaf die cutting but I hope you’ll agree the effect is worth it! Both of my cards feature the new Fall Traditions collection by Spellbinders.
For my first card, I leaned heavily on the amazing tips for creating a wreath from scratch with small dies by Jennifer McGuire in this vid here. To guide my wreath, I die cut a circle panel using the largest of the Nestabilities Essentials Circles die (Jennifer traces a circle onto her panel) from rustic cream cardstock. I also cut a panel of the same cardstock using the largest Nestabilities Essentials Rectangles die and adhered it to a white card to act as the base, and set aside.
I then did all my tiny die cutting – my wreath is formed from the Mini Fall Blooms die set, which I die cut several times from different shades of green cardstock. I also cut the berries from gold mirror cardstock, and the acorn tops from real wood paper. I then started building up my wreath. I first created a circle of the larger maple leaves all going round same direction. I then added oak leaves going back the other way.I adhered with strips with foam strips. and squares. I then ‘fluffed’ it out with smaller leaves, and the branches. I also added those gold berries onto the branches.
I finished with three of the acorns, to which I added a coat of Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the nut for shine! I also added some white acrylic splatters for a little bit of a painted look.
The sentiment in the centre is from the Colorblock Circles and Stripes set from a recent. die of the month, die cut from white cardstock and gold mirror, stacked on top of each other and adhered in the centre of the wreath .
I mounted the circle onto the notecard with foam tape, and finished with lots of Fashion Gold Embellishments for ‘extra’ berries.
My second card required a little bit of pre-planning to get this look so I’ll walk you through the order of steps I took. There might be an easier way to do it though!
To start, I masked off a 4″ x 5.25″ rectangle on a panel of rustic cream cardstock, and ink blended pale green, dark green in from edges to the centre, then added a light spritz of gold metallic spray. I then removed the mask, and dried off the panel. When dry, I ran the panel through my Platinum with the Fall Traditions Falling Leaves Embossing Folder. This creates and all over dry embossed panel, with a focal inked area.
I then die cut one of each of the leaf dies from the Autumn Leaves die set in the Fall Traditions collection from gold mirror cardstock. I cut down a panel of light scrap cardstock to the same size as my masked area, and arranged my leaves (without adhesive) on the panel. I. then grabbed some Press N’ Seal and picked up the leaves. I trimmed off the excess overhanging leaves by peeling back the Press N’Seal and snipping the excess off.
I peeled the scrap cardstock off the Press N’ Seal, leaving the leaves in place, and added lots of foam squares to the backs of the leaves. I then flipped it over and mounted it onto the ink blended masked area, adhering the leaves, and creating the illusion of masked die cuts too!
The sentiment is white heat embossed on black and mounted to the centre. It comes from the Circle of Sunshine stamp set from an earlier Clear Stamp of the Month. I scattered Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems in and around the leaves to finish!
