Hello everyone, and hello July! It’s a new month and that means it’s reveal day for Altenew’s Build-A-Flower. This month is the Bearded Iris – and this beauty is just gorgeous – I can’t wait to show you my project. My post today is part of a release hop, and you should have landed here from Tenia’s blog. If not, you can start the whole hop from the Altenew blog.
Build-A-Flowers always come with wonderful layering stamps to create a three-dimensional looking floral and leaves, and this one is no different. But my post today features just the outline as I wanted to do some no line watercoloring! The layering guide is an excellent reference point to get shading ideas when watercoloring.
I stamped both of the iris and some leaves in Silver Lake ink onto cold press watercolor cardstock, and then using my 36 pan watercolor set and Altenew brushes, I watercolored them. I used a yellow and pink for the flowers, building up the layers and letting them blend, and light green and deeper green for the leaves. I let them dry then die cut them out with the coordinating dies.
I haven’t used patterned paper in a while, and really liked the papers from the Wildflower collection. I thought this pretty peachy pattern would be a fun backdrop, so trimmed it down to 4 x 5.25″ to create a white border and adhered to a. white. notecard. I then mounted my flowers and leaves with foam squares.
The sentiment from the set was heat embossed in Antique Gold and trimmed out and popped up too. I still thought it needed a little something, so I die cut a couple of the Geometric Frames from gold mirror cardstock, and tucked them in behind the florals. Kind of like how I would do with a few die cut leaves! I finished with some pink sequins.
