Hi Everyone!
Spellbinders recently released the Sweet Cardlets II Collection by Becca Feeken and sent me along this super cute A Little Birdie set to play with. It’s a hot foil plate set, with sentiments and a cute little bird that has a coordinating die.
I decided to hot foil and color in the main brach image. I don’t often color in my hot foiled images but the effects you can get are really stunning. In the past I’ve watercolored my images (the foil resists the water) and this time I decided to use a waterbased marker (I’m using Tombow Dual Brush Markers) as again, the foiled image will resist the ink, allowing for quick coloring!
I foiled the branch frame on glossy white cardstock (taking a tip from Yana and finding the smoothest cardstock I had) using Champagne Glimmer hot foil. This is a really pale gold color, quite beautiful. While I had my Glimmer machine warmed up, I also foiled the bird in Champagne on pale purple cardstock, and the sentiment on white. I die cut out the bird with its coordinating die, and the sentiment using a Spellbinders banner from a monthly Glimmer kit.
I used my water based markers to color in the branches and flowers using pale blue green, purples and a pale beach for the branch itself. I also added a little deep purple ink blending to the birdie’s belly and tale. The foil resists the ink, and it adds a little depth. I then popped up the bird and the sentiment on foam squares and finished with a few Gold Color Mix Essential Gemstones.
