Hi Everyone!

Have you seen the new digital stamps over at Power Poppy? I just love the Time to Fly stamp – it’s a steampunk type image with butterflies, anemones and clocks and gears. I’ve given it the watercolor treatment today, accented with some pencil and Staedtler 88 fine point markers.

I printed out the image using my Brother black and white laser printer onto a 6″ x 9″ cold press 140LB 100% cotton rag Bee Paper. I love this paper as it comes in a stack of 50 and I can feed it into the top tray of my printer with no problems. I printed it out to around 5.5″ x 8″. You’ll notice that the clock face is missing on my image. I removed this with some very simple eraser tools in Photoshop to just leave a circular bevel to use for a sentiment.

I painted the butterflies with pan watercolors (I used Altenew’s 36 pan set). I did it largely flat painting, and then added more details and contrast with my Fabercastell Polychromos pencils, added some shading and shadows. I also used my Staedtler 88 fine point markers to add even more detail, such as round the bevel, shadows on the gears, and some contrast on the butterflies. I applied these by drawing the line around the image, then pulling out the marker with a water brush (these are water soluble markers and great for watercoloring with!)

Once everything was dry, I used this awesome sentiment from Power Poppy’s M-Powering Words to stamp my sentiment. I stamped it in WOW! Embossing ink and heat embossed twice (use a MISTI to keep alignment), first in WOW! Metallic Silver, and then in WOW! Primary Ebony. This gives a wonderful tin shadow look.

As a finishing touch, I added some black paint splatters. I trimmed down the panel slightly and then mounted it onto a piece of plain white cardstock (8 x 10″) and popped into a frame. My daughter now has it in her bedroom – I made this with her in mind, and the sentiment was just perfect. Here’s a quick look at it in pride of place on her dresser:

Be sure to check out the other digital stamps at Power Poppy – so many to choose from and all beautiful!
