Hi Everyone,

I have a card for you that I created as part of the Altenew January release but haven’t shared yet! It uses the wonderful Altenew Ornate Cover Die with Nuvo Jewel Drops to create a faux Stained Glass look.

While I didn’t create I didn’t create a video for this specific card, you can see this video or this video here to see this technique in more detail.

To create this card, I die cut the Ornate Cover Die four times from 110lb white cardstock and adhered them together. I then adhered them onto a sheet of clear acetate. I used Nuvo Jewel Drops to fill in some of the wells created with the die stack. I used Honeysuckle, Sea Breeze and Limoncello. I then left them overnight to dry.

I created a frame using a top folding white note card, die cutting it twice with the Altenew Rounded Rectangles dies to create a straight through window. To add some interest to the border, I stamped the floral outline stamp from Altenew’s Simple Beauty in Altenew Baby Pink Crisp Dye ink along with one of the sentiments from the set which I trimmed out.

The fun part of creating a straight through window like this is that you can put the card in front of a light or a window and see the stained glass effect! I’ve used this technique to create Christmas ornaments as well. You can see in this photo the background of my craftroom!

To pull the card together, I adhered the dried Nuvo panel inside the front of the card with double sided strips and popped the sentiment on a foam strip onto the front. You can also create another frame from a panel of white cardstock to go onto the back and hide the adhesive.

  1. This is gorgeous and I had forgotten about this technique. I’m eager to try this now, but sadly no crafty time in my immediate future. Hopefully I remember to give it a go when I get the time! Pinned so I don’t forget completely 😉 Thanks for sharing this!!!
