Emboss resist is one of my favorite techniques of all time. It combines my one of my favorite crafty products – embossing powder, is easy to get a beautiful effect, and can result in so many different looks. So I’m super pleased that in November, WOW! Embossing’s monthly challenge is emboss resist! I’ll have a couple of videos this month showcasing the technique, but for today I wanted to show you my challenge card (and it’s watercolor so perfect for Day 3 of The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge too!)

I LOVE how this card turned out. I used Gina K/Hero Arts Friendship Blossoms stamp set which is such a gorgeous focal image – it’s HUGE and so perfect to use to stamp multiple times on a card front. I stamped it three times in WOW! Embossing ink onto hot press watercolor cardstock (it’s smooth so perfect for heat embossing). I rotated the stamp a couple of times and left a space for my sentiment later. I then heat embossed it in WOW! Mayan Glintz. The Glintz range from WOW! are some of my favorite poweders. They’re translucent with a tint of pink or pale cream with a gleam to them. Perfect for emboss resist with florals.

I watercolored them with my Mijello Mission Gold watercolors, just by blobbing on pale colors, letting them puddle up in the ‘wells’ created by the . embossing, dry and then go back in with a touch of darker color. I used Vermillion on the flowers, and Indigo on the leaves. I watered down the Indigo heavily to create a wash on the background with just a tiny touch of blue, and added some splatters for good measure.

For my sentiment, I added WOW! ink to cardstock by swiping the pad over a panel, then heat embossed with the brand new Frosting embossing glitter by WOW! This is currently only available in the Sweet Treats set which is a gorgeous set of glittery embossing powders. I repeated this a couple more times then die cut it with the Gina K Hugs die. I die cut white cardstock four times and then adhered them all together and then adhered them directly to the watercolor panel.

As a sub-sentiment, I stamped the Hello Sweet Friend sentiment from the Gina K / Hero Arts set onto gray cardstock and heat embossed in the Mayan Glitz. You can see what a gorgeous color this makes when the gray cardstock shows through. I trimmed out the ‘sweet friend’ part and popped up on foam tape. As a finishing touch I added a few Studio Katia Iridescent Bubbles which are gorgeous and pick up all the colors from any card you use them with.
