Hi Everyone!

I am popping in to show you three more ways to use the new Color Burst from Catherine Pooler Designs and Ken Oliver. But first some news – some of you may know, it was announced here on Catherine’s Blog recently, but I am stepping down from the Creative Team after 20 amazing months. I’ve had such a wonderful time and can’t believe the time has come to say goodbye – thank you so much to the whole team for making me so welcome! This is my last official post for the team!

So with that being said, I’m showcasing some of the recent Backgrounds & Bursts release and three more ways to use them.

For my first card, I created a background by liberally spritzing water over cold press watercolor cardstock, and then dropping in the Limoncello and Suede Shoes Color Burst. Look at all the colors you get just from these two! I dried the panel and then overlaid the Polka Heart stencil and added clear glitter paste (I used Bo Bunny Sugar paste). Before it dried, I sprinkled some more of the same Color Burst over the top and added water. The bursts seep into and color the glitter paste – I just love this technique!

You can also see where the water creates little halos around the glitter paste circles – pretty fun! I left it to dry then trimmed it and mounted it onto a Midnight black card base. The sentiment is from Sunshine Flowers, heat embossed in WOW! Opaque Bright White on vellum. I decided as an after thought to adhere the vellum to a black piece of card so it stood out more, and die cut it with Postage Stamp dies.

My next card uses the Sandy Background stamp. I first created a background with Samba and Limoncello Color Burst, using lots of water to make it a little paler. When dry, I stamped the Sandy background in WOW! Embossing Ink and heat embossed in WOW! Gold Pearl embossing powder. I wanted to make the pattern stand out a little more so I added a bit of Limoncello Sparkle to my craft mat, and then picked it up with a fine water brush and painted it into the pattern. I also added a little bit of the Samba sparkle for contrast.

I noticed that the Fitted Frames dies fit around the side of the background, so I used the largest to die cut the pattern and then cut it in half. I popped it up on foam tape to a white notecard. For a simple sentiment, I stamped this big one from A Note of Thanks in Midnight ink directly onto the card base.

I have been asked by a couple of folks how I made the cards I posted on the sneak peek of the new release so here’s some more detail! For the above card, I created a background as before with Lemoncello and a tiny bit of Samba Color Burst. When dry I die cut it with the Garden Gate die. I also die cut it again from silver brushed metal cardstock. I love my new Gemini Jr for this (I finally jumped on the Gemini bandwagon) as these dies are so intricate and the JR just cuts them SO FAST AND PERFECTLY! Where has it been all my life?!

I adhered the Color Burst watercolor die cut to a piece of white cardstock covered in dry adhesive. I then inlaid the silver pieces. I trimmed it out around the edges and then popped it onto a white notecard. I then took the main silver die cut, rotated it and adhered it over the top. I added a few Phoenix sequins, and the sentiment is from Rose Garden. I heat embossed it in WOW! Bright White Opaque EP onto Midnight cardstock and then fussy cut it out and popped it up on foam tape in the centre.

My final card is probably my favorite. I heat embossed the Sandy Background stamp in WOW! Bright White embossing powder onto cold press cardstock. I then colored in the areas using Suede Shoes Color Burst and a water brush, blending it out in areas and darkening for contrast towards the corners. I also added some spatters for good measure.

When dry I added some Nuvo drops in Morning Due and some Glacier Bay sequins. The sentiment was stamped in Midnight Ink and is from Never Forget. This was designed by the amazing Julie Mogford, and she called this card ‘quiet’ which is just so perfect to describe it.

That’s it from me, thank you CP and Ericka and all of my old teamies – love you guys! I will be watching from the sidelines and can’t wait to see what you come up with!
