It’s video hop day for the new Tropical Treasures release from Catherine Pooler Designs!! Today I’m focusing on simple techniques for using patterned paper using the Spring in Bloom and Tropical Treasures patterned paper sets.

I’ll show you how I created four cards using heat embossing, ink blending and die cutting with the patterned paper to create cards with the new release, really putting the emphasis on the patterned paper. You can find the video over on my YouTube channel or here:

There is a giveaway for commenting on every stop on the video hop and subscribing to all channels – $25 GC for Catherine’s Store for a lucky winner, announced on Catherine’s blog on April 1.

I’ve linked to the full release below which includes sets from the previously released Tropically Yours Stamp of Approval, now available to purchase individually (affiliate links used).

My first pair of cards focuses on simple die cutting using the Stand Tall stamp and die set from the previously released Tropically Yours Stamp of Approval which is now available to buy in the store individually. I die cut the new co-ordinating flamingo paper from the Tropical Treasures pad, and used it with pink glitter cardstock to create inlaid die cutting. You can also use the left over pieces to create another card! The new Miami sequins pair perfectly!

My second card uses more die cutting and I focused again on pairing the paper with the ‘right’ die – this time I used the brand new To The Point coverplate with the green and yellow reed type paper which is also in the Tropical Treasures collection.

This gives a great effect right?! I stamped the cockatiel from the new Toucan Do It set and colored it with my Catherine Pooler Inks using a Zig Blender. I always pay attention to the colors linked on the front of the paper pads as these are great pointers as to which to use to co-ordinate.

In order to ensure the bird stood out from the background, and provide a way to hide my adhesive, I die cut a vellum circle and then popped the bird up on foam tape before adhering it directly to the background (and trimming off the excess). My sentiment was heat embossed in white onto premium white cardstock that I had colored with co-ordinating Garden Party ink.

For my final card, I used a panel of the lilac floral paper from the Spring in Bloom paper pad. I heat embossed the large floral image from One in a Million Mom directly onto the paper and heat embossed it in WOW! Metallic Silver. I also added a bit of ink blending to make the image pop using Sweet Sixteen and Pixie Dust.

The ‘mom’ word is from the new release and I die cut it 5 times from white cardstock and adhered together to create a chipboard type piece. I also colored in the flower itself with clear Wink of Stella to add a bit of sparkle!

The sentiment was heat embossed in white on Smoke & Mirrors cardstock. I’ve added a list of the additional supplies I used in below – enjoy the hop!
