Hi Everyone!

I hope those of you in the US managed to have a relaxing Columbus Day weekend.  The weather was not playing ball here in New York – it was very damp so we didn’t get to go for a nice autumnal hike like we’d planned.  However we did manage to do a little grilling despite the weather!

I also got a little bit of time to get in my craft room and dig into my stash and make a card just for fun – it was World Card Making Day on Saturday, so I wanted to have a play.

For my background, I’m using the Geo Leaf Background Die by PinkFresh Studio.  I love geometric design coverplates – there are so many things you can do with them such as stenciling, dry embossing, create window cards… For this card, I wanted to create a rich and elegant look using colored cardstock and Nuvo Jewel Drops for embellishment.  I die cut the coverplate from Simon Says Stamp Lipstick Red cardstock, and then adhered it to a panel of gold foil cardstock, allowing the gold to peep through all of the windows in the coverplate.  I then dropped Nuvo Jewel Drops in Strawberry Coolis (they have a subtle red sheen) in each of the circle windows and left to dry.

I heat embossed the largest bloom from the beautiful Grateful Heart stampset by Catherine Pooler Designs onto another piece of the same red cardstock using WOW! Metallic Gold embossing powder and die-cut it with the co-ordinating die.  For a little dimension, I ink blended Catherine Pooler ink in Peppermint Scrub up from the bottom edge, into the centre.  I then popped it up on foam tape to the front of the panel (once the drops were dry).

For the sentiment, I used the Celebrate die by Catherine Pooler (from a recent Stamp of Approval Collection).  I die cut it four times from the red cardstock, and once from the gold, adhered them together with liquid adhesive.  From the side you can see the red cuts and it looks pretty cool!  I then adhered the die stack directly onto the florals  (I just added glue along the bottom).   I added the whole panel onto a white notecard.

I’m sure you have coverplates in your stash you could do something very similar with – I can’t wait to try this again with Navy and silver!
