Hi friends! I hope you’ve been enjoying your Spring – we just got back from a wonderful week away in Virginia for the spring break – a week without crafting! While I do enjoy having a break, I couldn’t wait to get back into the craft room again! Today I’m sharing a card I created using a die from the brand new Spellbinders Colorblock Backgrounds Collection in the April 2022 release. My card today features the Color Block Slimline Edges – I love the scalloped one, it reminded me of mermaid scales when layered together, so I created an entire background by layering them together – lots and lots of die cutting, but I think it was worth it!

For my colors I chose blues and purples with gold, to give a shimmer to those mermaid scales. The cardstock is Purple Mist, Teal Topaz and Waterfall, with Brushed Gold. I die cut them several times and then adhered them to a panel of white cardstock cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″. The technique I used was to add a thin strip of foam tape about halfway along the strip, adhere to the card starting at the top and working my way down, shifting so that the scales lined up.

I alternated colors in order, cutting off the excess and using the leftover pieces to finish down the rest of the panel. I finished with gold and then trimmed off the entire excess top, bottom and sides, to make sure it fully lined up. I also added a very thin strip of brushed gold down each edge with liquid glue to give it a more finished look.

For the sentiment, I die cut the ‘hello’ from the April 2022 Large Die of the Month set using Teal Topaz, and backed it with vellum. I then adhered it to the centre of the die cut panel using foam strips, sandwiching a messy nest of gold thread behind. I finished with a few Gold Mix crystals here and there to finish the look.
