Hello there crafty friends! Altenew’s Folktales and Stories March release brings with it some practical, fun and floral story like stamps and dies this month. I’m excited to share my projects with you. If you hopped on over here from Jennifer McGuire‘s blog you’re on the right track (or head on over to the Altenew Blog to start at the beginning!)
My first project today features my favorite product in the new release – the Botanical Bookmark Stamp and Die. This set can be used to layer up the ‘READ’ with multiple colors and then die cut it out – and pair it with some cute little sub sentiments. The bookmark die can used on its own or as I created in my project, with the stamp set. I created this bookmark for my daughter so went for lots of pale and pretty colors on this one!
I first die cut the book from white cardstock twice (I’m creating a two sided bookmark). I then used it in my MISTI and aligned the stamps to create the the ‘READ’ image where I wanted it on the bookmark. I used Wisteria, Misty Morning and Cloudy Sky Crisp Dye Inks.
I then die cut the Bookmark die twice more, but this time I also lined up the ‘READ’ die over the top of the already stamped word, while aligning the bookmark outline to the white die cut. Using my Satin Masking Tape I adhered them in place using pale blue and Lavender Fields cardstock.
I adhered the colored cardstock over the top of the stamped panels with glue, making sure to line up the stamped image with the die cut outline. I did this on both white panels then adhered them together completely. I stamped ‘snuggle up &’ in Cloudy Sky ink on one side, and ‘lead.succeed’ in Wisteria on the other side, and added a few iridescent crystals here and there.
To finish, I added some pale blue shear ribbon, and satin gray ribbon in a loop through the hole in the top to finish!
My next card features the Rosy Blooms stamp set. I stamped all of the floral images from the set on X-Press It cardstock (alcohol marker safe) using Permanent Black ink. I colored them all in using pretty much all of the colors in the Space Garden Artists Markers. I then die cut them out with the Rosy Blooms coordinating dies.
The background is a panel of white cardstock dry embossed with the Gems 3D Embossing Folder. I then arranged all of the die cuts on the panel using foam squares to adhere them, and trimmed off the excess. I nestled a simple white heat embossed sentiment strip in one of the larger gaps, and tucked Satin Gold Sequins throughout the panel.
For my next card I was excited to see Altenew release a Simple Coloring Stencil for an older released stamp set – the Floral Sprig. I stamped the image in Jet Black Crisp Ink, then overlaid the new coloring stencil over the top and used Wisteria, Hydrangea for the florals, and Cloudy Sky and Nimbus for the leaves. I also used Silver Lake for the stem. I then die cut it out. I also stamped the sentiment in Obsidian ink and fussy cut it out.
For my background, I used a panel of white cardstock and heat embossed the new Geometric Botany background over the top in Pure White embossing powder. I then ink blended Wisteria and a touch of Hydrangea over the top, letting the heat embossing resist the ink. I didn’t go right to the edges, but rather faded the ink out from the centre. I also added a few Jet Black ink splatters here and there, before popping up the sprig and sentiment on foam tape over the top.
My final card today feature the new Tree of Fantasy stamp set. This is a big layering set that looks pretty complex – believe me I spent what felt like ages poring over how exactly to line up the images perfectly. However it’s really forgiving – I don’t think I lined it up quite correctly and it’s hard to even tell!
My card is one layer, stamped directly off the edge of a side folding card. I used the Sea Shore collection of inks for the tree itself. I then used the Delectable Delights set for the trunk (that looks so real!) and finished with the sentiment stamped in Obsidian Pigment. If you look closely you’ll also see a few splatters here and there – I used the same inks as the tree, mixed with a little water, and flicked them on to try and capture breezy leaves!
