Hello Friends! I don’t know about you, but I’m very much looking forward to Spring! We are getting snow falls tonight as I write this! I’m sharing a watercolor piece I started actually back in November, put to one side, and then picked up again and finished today – better late than never!
It’s a digital image from Power Poppy ‘Friendly Forest’ – I love how detailed this image is, and it’s perfect for taking some time out to chill out and paint. I printed mine out using the pale grey digi to get a no-line coloring effect. I’m using Bee Coldpress watercolor paper and Daniel Smith tube watercolors.
My approach to no line coloring digis is to add a pale layer, then add in some darker paint, let it dry, then add some shade or detail, with a full amount of the color with very little water just on the brush tip. I used a Silver Brush in a size 2.
I added some detail on the flower centres, bird’s eye, feathers and acorns with a white gel pen and a few darker lines with a black multi-liner for contrast. I also pulled out the earth at the bottom with water to ground the image.
To finish I blended some pale blue ink into the sky with a blender brush, and then stamped a sentiment from the Pure Prairie stamp set in brown ink to co-ordinate with the colors. I then trimmed it out and popped it up on a card base to keep it simple.
Roll on spring!
