Have you hopped along in the blog hop celebrating the Altenew November 2019 release yet? You can check out my video and blog post as part of the hop here. I made just too many cards with the new products so I’m sharing a couple more today.

My first features those gorgeous Mariposa Mix & Match butterfly dies again. I die cut the top layers from Altenew Gold Mirror cardstock, 1 large, 2 Medium and 2 small, and set aside.

I then die cut the bottom layer from white cardstock, and using a mini ink dauber, I ink blended two shades of ink on each butterfly. My plan was to create a rainbow base across the butterflies, so I made sure to do these in order of how they’d appear on the card.

The bottom is dark purple and light purple, then light pink and pale red, then orange and yellow, lime green and dark blue, then finally navy and grey purple. I adhered the gold and the base ink blended butterflies together.

For my card base, I created a wash of watercolor using a Purple Wine Watercolor Brush Marker (from the Tropical set), scribbled over the top part of an A2 panel of watercolor cardstock. I then switched to a waterbrush and pulled it down the rest of the card, scribbling. After drying it, I die cut it with the Altenew Cross Stitch Canvas die – I love this for adding texture to card bases.

I arranged the butterflies down the centre of the card, overlapping them and using foam tape – I used one layer on the 1, 3, 5 butterfly and two layers on on the second and fourth. The sentiment was stamped in black and is from the new Plentiful Pine stamp set. As a finishing touch I added a few sparkling clear sequins.

My next card uses the Regal Beauty stamp set, and the co-ordinating masks. This layering stamp set can be a little more tricky to line up until you get the hang of it – if a layer is slightly off, it can be quite noticeable. I highly recommend using a MISTI to take your time to line up . the layers. I used shades of pink to stamp my flower, and grey and black for the centre.

I used the co-ordinating masks to stamp the leaves by covering over the main flower with a mask, and stamping a large layered leaf (using grey and black), then laying the large leaf mask over that and stamping the second large leaf. I left the masks in place to stamp the small leaves from the set in pale grey and dark grey.

Before removing the masks, I added a few grey splatters. When dry I stamped the sentiment in black directly onto the panel. This gives a lovely clean one layer look.

Another tip for using these masks: you can use the negative part as a stencil, and add glitter paste. I did this with the card above and here’s a look – it does obscure some of the stamping, so you have to pick and chose how you use it, maybe it can also be used alone to add a glitter image, and then stamp your leaves around it!

You might also notice I stamped some of the sentiments from the new Crafty Greetings set on the envelopes. This is such a FAB set for this. Perfectly sized!
