Hi Everyone!
I’m back with another card that I created for the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP). I decided to carry on the layering theme by creating another card that focuses on layering stamps, building on the practice I had from the first All About Layering class, and this time practicing with several of the sets from the second AAL class.
For my card this time, I wanted to go luxurious and rich looking, like expensive wallpaper – lots of gold highlights and bold colors. I am using the Beautiful Day stamp set which is one of my all time favorites, and still super easy to line up using the outlines. This time I stamped the layers in order from full solid to detail.
I stamped it twice in three shades of warm pink to red ink, letting each layer dry in between stamping. I used Altenew’s Enchanted Gold to stamp the outlines over the top. I then repeated this with the main leaf image, using pale blue and dark grey for the color layers, and then tying it in with the outline stamped in gold again. I then fussy cut them all out, keeping close to the edges to avoid a white outline as much as possible.
For my background, I ink blended Distress Oxides in Lucky Clover, Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers. I then spattered Nuvo Shimmer Pen in Midas Touch over the top and left it to dry naturally (which caused that cool oxidisation effect you get with these inks).
I then arranged my flowers over the panel when it was dry, but before adhering them down, I lined up some of the floral detail stamps from the Beautiful Day set. I then stamped them directly onto the panel in Enchanted Gold, in a way similar to one of the cards I saw in the All About Layering 2 class (although that had used a different stamp set). I really like how this addition of outline stamps in the background adds depth to the main layered images.
I then popped up the fussy cut flowers and the leaves with foam tape onto the panel. Where the leaves peeped over the edge of the panel I snipped them off. I like to do this to make the card look finished but you can easily keep them hanging off the edge once you mount the panel to a card base.
As a finishing touch I added some enamel dots in a co-ordinating color – I just love how this pinky coral pops against the green background, and the gold addition to the layers really gives it a velevety look in real life! I’d love to hear what you think!
