Hi Everyone!
I’m back again to share with you my second project showcasing the stamps and dies from the Handmade Collection by Stephanie Low which was originally featured as a Guest post on the Spellbinders Blog last week. My project features the Yarn and Happiness stamp and die sets.
I love some of the cross stitch pieces in the collection – they coordinate perfectly with the knitted images for a faux hand-stitched look, so I’ve combined them together on today’s card. The card was inspired by antique stitched samplers!
To create my card, I first stamped my background panel. I used the floral cross-stitch image from the Happiness set, and stamped it in rows across a 4” x 5.25” panel of white cardstock in a muted blue-green ink. The stamp wasn’t quite long enough to fit across the entire panel, so I snipped it and then added the additional edge (it fits together perfectly for future use). For an aged look, I ink blended Antique Linen Distress ink over the edges, fading out towards the centre.
I created a frame from Spellbinders silver foil cardstock by die-cutting two of the A2 Matting Basics B frames together. I also used just one of the frames to die cut a rectangle of Spellbinders canvas. I then layered the canvas and the stamped panel at angles with liquid adhesive onto an A2 white card base. I added the frame over the top at an angle with foam tape.
The knitted flowers from the Yarn set were stamped twice in clear embossing ink onto white cardstock and heat embossed in silver. I colored them in pale brown/pink and grey-blue tones using my watercolor brush markers, blending out with a blender pen. I stamped the cross-stitched Happiness Is sentiment using two of the same brush markers to co-ordinate with the flowers, blending the first color into the second (just swipe the marker across the stamp a few times). The Homemade sentiment was heat embossed in silver as before.
I die-cut out each of the images with their co-ordinating dies, and before mounting with foam squares onto the card, I edged each with Antique Linen Distress Ink to really give it that aged ‘heirloom’ feel.
This card was so much fun to make – I will be stopping by again very soon with one more card created using the Handmade Stephanie Low collection.
