Hi Everyone!

It’s an exciting day today because the new Stamp of Approval Tropically Yours Collection is released!  I hope you all have been enjoying the three days of hopping and sneaks and peaks – because today is the day!

If you’re not familiar with Stamp of Approval, you’ll find out a lot about it here. In a nutshell, it is a quarterly themed collection of stamping products that all co-ordinate and can be used alone or together along with some inks, cardstock or other embellishments  to create a ton of different projects.  It often sells out like lightning and there is a waitlist ahead of time to place an order just in case it does sell out on release day.

To celebrate release day, I have another card for you that I created with the collection.

You may have seen previous posts where I used word dies as stencils with paste.  I’ve used that technique here to create a bold and modern card.  To create my card, I first stamped the Canvas Grunge Background stamp in Catherine Pooler Black Jack ink onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ 110lb white card panel.  It is better to use thick and sturdy cardstock when doing this technique as it prevents warping of the cardstock when the paste dries.

I then took another panel of thick cardstock the same size and die cut one of the Stand Tall flamingo dies (a Collection add-on) – make sure to keep the triangle that drops out between the flamingo’s legs.  I overlaid it on the stamped panel and affixed with masking tape, and then used glitter paste and a palette knife to the stencil (I used Pink Punch by Bo Bunny).  I lifted up the card panel stencil carefully and then set aside the panel to dry.

You’ll notice that the gap between the flamingo’s legs will also have paste in it. I have a sneaky way to cover that up.  Simply grab the triangle you saved from earlier (or die cut it again if you lost it) and ink up part of the Grunge Background again, and gently push the triangle into it.  You can then adhere it to the paste flamingo when dry, and it is very hard to tell that it’s just an add in !

When the paste was dry, I stamped the I’ll Stand By You sentiment from the Stand Tall stamp set in Versamark embossing ink, and heat embossed in gold.  It didn’t quite stand out enough for my liking from the  background, so I carefully went around all of the letters with a white gel pen (it only takes a couple of minutes to do but really makes the sentiment stand out).  I adhered the entire panel to a white card base.

And that’s it – I love this SOA release – I think it’s my favorite so far.  I love the modern mixed with the tropical, and the versatility of all of the contents.  I can’t wait for you to get your hands on it, check out the SOA Project Guide that comes with it too, where we have tons more inspiration for you!

  1. I adore the choices you’ve made for this card. That truly awesome neutral background with the deliciously vibrant flamingo is stunning. Thanks for the trick with the legs….I’ll remember it when I have pesky paste residue.
