Hi everyone and welcome to Day 1 of the Stamp of Approval Tropically Yours Collection Blog Hop! If you arrived here from Ardyth’s blog then I hope you’re having lots of fun seeing all of the inspiration for the new SOA Collection. If you arrived here directly then I highly recommend starting at Catherine’s blog first for the full blog-hoppy experience! A full list of hop stops can be found at the end of this post. Make sure to comment along the stops on the hop – THREE commenters will be chosen at random from all the comments on all the blogs (one each day) to win the Stamp of Approval Collection! If the winner has already purchased their collection, they will receive a $100 gift certificate.
Entries will close on Friday, July 20 and will be announced on Catherine’s blog.
If you’re not familiar with Stamp of Approval, you’ll find out a lot about it by checking the info on Catherine’s blog. In a nutshell, it is a quarterly themed collection of stamping products that all co-ordinate and can be used alone or together along with some ink, cardstock or other embellishments to create tonnes of different kinds of projects. It often sells out like lightning and there is a waitlist ahead of time to place an order just in case it does sell out on release day.
This release is amazing. It is chock full of tropical florals and leaves, borders, dies, awesome sentiments and FLAMINGOS! And if that’s not all, the Collection comes with a downloadable Project Guide with tonnes of ideas to inspire you. The full release is July 18th so make sure you get on the waiting list if you don’t want to miss out!
The Cabana Tile dies are my absolute favorite product and I’ve focused my post today on how versa’tile’ these are (chuckle!), creating three cards with very different techniques. I’ll also be posting again over the next few days with other projects I created so be sure to stop back.
Card 1 – Stained Glass Window
For my first card, I created a stained glass window using Nuvo Jewel drops. I’ve created a video showing you how to create this card over on my YouTube channel. You can find it here and below.
The card also uses the Good Vibes Border stampset included in the new collection for the sentiment.
I’ve done this technique before, but I loved the look of the tiles for this sort of card. The light shines completely through.
This technique does require some patience (the drops have to dry overnight) but I think the effect is just so cool. Here’s a quick shot of it outside in front of the sun!
Card 2 – Using Dies as a Stencil
For my second card, I used the 7 tile dies (not snipped apart!) to die cut a multi-window from a thick piece of card stock which I then used as a stencil over a white card base to do some ink blending.
As I wanted to do each hexagon window in a different color, I made sure to mask off adjoining hexagon windows (and the main card base) with post-its. I then used a mini ink blending tool to blend a variety of Catherine Pooler Inks over each window. I used two colors per window, and all are listed at the end of this post, fading out a lighter color first, then coming back in with a darker color. I won’t lie, this took a while, but I think the results are worth it. Before I lifted the ‘stencil’ off, I spritzed with a clear shimmer spray and flicked with a few drops of water for a distressed sparkly look.
When dry, I over-stamped the sentiment from the Fearless Pursuit stamp set in Midnight Ink, and scattered some sparkling clear confetti sequins to embellish. Completely a one layer card!
Card 3 – Blended Die Cuts
My final card uses ink blending again, but this time, I use the die cut tiles themselves.
To create my card, I blended a variety of Catherine Pooler inks directly onto card stock, making a stripe just slightly wider than a cabana tile itself. I faded out each color on the cardstock, and then die cut the tile, making sure to include the faded out and the darker part. You could of course die cut the tiles then blend onto them, but I find the other way round gives a softer look. For one of the tiles, just to change it up a little, I used gold mirror cardstock (in place of the blue rainbow color).
I adhered each of the tiles onto a white card base, and then for my sentiment, I used the “hello gorgeous” from the Stand Tall stamp set, heat embossed in white superfine embossing powder onto Midnight black cardstock. I trimmed it out and popped it up on foam tape. To finish, I added the same sparkling clear confetti sequins as before.
So that’s my cards for today, your next stop on the hop is mixed media extraordinaire Josefine. The full hop list can be found below. Don’t forget to comment to be in with a chance to win!
