Hi Everyone!

There is still time to play along with the current Timeout Challenge – our theme this week is ‘Wild’, and we are sponsored by Winnie and Walter – with $25 to spend with them for the winner 😮

For my card, I wanted to create a ‘wild’ party theme, and combine it with a technique that uses a die as a stencil, as well as create some ‘sideview’ interest !

I took a piece of cold press watercolor cardstock and adhered it down to a board with masking tape.  I then used the Winnie and Walter Flawless Diamond Cutaway to diecut a separate piece of card stock to create a stencil.  I sprayed it with repositionable spray adhesive (I used Krylon) and adhered over the watercolor cardstock. I used a selection of sparkly powder watercolors (Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals)in Sassy Sapphire, Prima Donna Purple, Hi Maintenance Magenta and Cosmopolitan Pink and sprinkled some of the powder in random places over the stencil.  I then spritzed with water so that the powder spread out. Before removing the stencil I dried it with my Ranger Craft Tool then lifted the stencil.  You’re left with a super sparkly image in the shape of your die cut!!  I highly recommend using spray adhesive so that the water doesn’t seep under the stencil.

I used the In A Word: Party Cutaway to die cut the word directly out of the image. Save all the pieces that pop out!  I also cut a Lil’ Inkers Silly Stitched frame around the outside.  I created a card base from Neenah Solar White 110lb card stock and applied glue runner all over the centre where the Party die cut was going to be, and around the edges of the back of the die cut frame itself, then adhered it down.

Using the word die, I die cut the word Party three more times from different colors of sticky backed fun foam in purple, pink and blue.  I then layered them all on top of each other.  I used spray adhesive (not repositionable) on the back of the party die cut and adhered it on the top of the fun foam stack. I then adhered the whole piece onto the space on the front of the card panel.  I actually was trying to use up some fun foam I had laying around my craft room and found this technique gave such a cool look, I’m now hoarding the foam to do it more in the future!! You get so much dimension.  Using the saved pieces from the original die cut Party, I popped those into the spaces (without foam) to create the full image again.

To finish, I found some Simon Says Stamp Colored Confetti sequins that perfectly matched the colors in the watercolors, and adhered them with MY NEW FAVOURITE GLUE – Art Glitter Glue (clear).  This stuff is amazing.  No clogging!! I then used my Dymo label maker to create the ‘Time To’ sentiment and adhered it with foam tape.  I just love how this card turned out and I’m totally going to be doing more of this technique. These powders are also amazing and are so sparkly in real life!  Don’t you just love the stripey side view the fun foam creates?!

  1. Gorgeous card – I love how you layered the watercolouered diamond with the die cut – it is so beautiful and I can imagine the sparkle. I have been obsessed with my metallic watercolours lately but I didn’t realize they were available in powder form too – another item to go in the cart 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
