Today I’m using some of the new Halloween goodies in the release (in my blog hop tomorrow Ill be using some of the new floral and leaf designs and kindness dies (hence the ‘Kind of’ Batty !).  There are two great background stamps featuring bats and cobwebs, and some great witchy and spooky scene stamps and co-ordinating dies, plus my favorite – a spooky eyes cover plate (‘Who’s There?’) There are also three ink colors being released – Twilight, Sand Dunes and Over Coffee.  See the bottom of this post for links to all the new goodies.

Cards 1 – Spooky Scene with Polychromos

My first card features the Spooky Hollow stamps and dies – I just love the detail on the main house stamp and wanted to color it with my Faber Castell Polychromos.

To create my card, I trimmed a piece of coldpress watercolor paper to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and blended the new Twilight ink across the panel, getting lighter towards one edge and heavier on the other. I also added some Black Jack ink to darken one edge.  I also spritzed with Shimmer spray.

I then stamped the tree image from the set multiple times, angling it on occasion to create a fuller tree and give the illusion of a forest. I used Twilight, Black Jack, and Midnight, to create dimension.  I then stamped the house and the gravestones in black ink.

I colored the house and stones in purple and grey Polychromos, adding yellow and orange in the windows.  I also added white gel pen for highlights. I added some shadows in grey in front of the house and the stones, angling to look like the moon was casting creepy shadows, and to ground the images.

I used the tiny star images from the co-ordinating die set and die cut a starry sky from above the house and tree.  I also die cut the moon and cat from white Premium cardstock, and the witch and bats from Midnight cardstock.  I popped these up on the panel (I did stamp the cat on the die cut in Midnight ink) using foam tape and liquid adhesive.   The panel was adhered to a Premium white notecard using foam tape.

The sentiment was stamped on Midnight cardstock in Versamark and heat embossed in WOW! Bright White Opaque embossing powder, then popped up on foam tape.  I added Glossy Accents to the windows for a little shine.

Card 2 – Glow … and eyes… in the Dark

My second card uses the Going Batty background stamp, which I stamped on Midnight cardstock in Versamark ink and heat embossed with WOW! Glow in the Dark embossing powder.

I used the Who’s There? coverplate to die cut the eyes from the panel.  I then laid it over white cardstock and using a pencil, marked where each of the eyes appeared.  I then used Catherine Pooler ink in Sauna and Tutti Fruitti to ink blend the eyes on the white panel using a sponge dauber.

I adhered the heat embossed panel over the ink blended panel with glue runner, lining up the eyes.  I adhered the entire panel to a white Premium notecard.   The sentiment was stamped in Midnight ink onto Premium white cardstock, trimmed out and popped up on foam tape.

I LOVE the glow in the dark embossing powder with these backgrounds.   I think a few of us on the DT went for such a combo.  I also like how the eyes pop in the halflight too, as I used bright inks.  My apologies I really struggled to get a good photo of the glow in the dark, it’s sort of a green eerie glow 🙂

And that’s my cards! I hope you like them, and it gave you some spooky inspiration on how create spooky scenes with the new release.  Loving that Twilight ink!!  Be sure to stop by again tomorrow for Day 2 of the hop.
