Good morning everyone! Is it getting cold where you are? Here in New York I’m definitely putting the heating on today – and the new Paint-A-Flower release from Altenew is here with a Blog Hop + Giveaway to warm things up more! Stay tuned until the end of the post for hop stops and more details.

September’s PAF is Carnations! And not just one – there is a lovely bunch of them to color in for your projects. I have two cards to share today using the set.

My first card features the Carnations heat embossed, which makes watercoloring it super easy! I heat embossed the stamp in Golden Peach embossing powder, then colored it with watercolors using Rubellite, Grapevine, Cotton Candy, Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades. I then fussy cut it out.

For my background, I used a panel of Spicy Yoghurt cardstock, and repeat stamped the Carnations image multiple times on the background. I used a pale ink – Blush – that co-ordinated with my image but was subtle enough to stay in the background.

I adhered the panel to a note card, then to mount my fussy cut carnation I used foam squares, with a piece of vellum die cut with a Nesting Frames die for a little dimension. To finish, I heat embossed and trimmed out the sentiment in white embossing powder on Jet Black cardstock. I added a few pearls to finish.

For my next project I went more bold and graphic. I stamped the Carnations several times in Obsidian Pigment ink (slower drying so be sure to heat set before coloring with water mediums) on smooth watercolor cardstock.

I used three shades of pink and three shades of green to watercolor in my images, using some Copics to add in more contrast. I also outlined the Carnations with a pale gray Copic to add a subtle shadow.

I stamped my sentiment in the centre using Obsidian ink and Magenta ink to co-ordinate with the carnations. I used the stamps themselves to overlay on the top to mask off the sentiment before adding lots of splatters. This stops the splatters messing up the sentiment itself. To finish I added some pink Nuvo Stone Drops.
