Hello everyone!
I’m SO excited and thrilled to be part of a blog hop today showcasing the Fall 2020 release from Penguin Palace – their first ever blog hop! And let me tell you, this release is really something super innovative and new and quite special. I’m joining a bunch of mega talented artists on this hop, which has a giveaway, and the full hop list and giveaway details are at the end of this post.
I created four cards for this hop, but I have much more up my sleeve. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make a video showcasing the release but there will be one coming soon. Sharon at Penguin Palace has a great how-to on YouTube I highly recommend.
This release focuses on the brand new Stencils 360. These are circular stencils you can rotate with the help of a guide system as you ink blend (MUCH easier to use than it looks at first and SUPER ADDICTIVE). Depending on the angles you rotate at, and the colors you use, you can achieve some unbelievable effects. And that’s with single stencils. Some of the stencils come in twos and threes, which I’ll show you in one of my projects. For all of my projects, I’m using the 4.25″ x 5.5″ paper positioner cardstock, the main Stencils 360 Base, and the 8″ Guide. I also use the 4″ Guide for one of my cards.
My first project features the Waterspouts stencil. I blended it using gray and purple gray inks and then die cut the centre out using the circle die from the Warmest Wishes Perfect Cuts die set.
I decided to create a shaker with this card, using co-ordinating sequins – a mix of white, silver and gray purple. I added them to the back, then backed with some purple ink blended cardstock.
My sentiment is from the Heartfelt Notes sentiment set – aren’t these GREAT!!! Perfect for now especially. I heat embossed it in Silver embossing powder on black, trimmed it out and popped it into the top corner, fussy cutting out the bottom for a little interest.
I just love the effect of this stencil – if you stare at it too long your eyes go funny !
For my next card I used the Summer Blossom stencil. Each time I blended it, I started with a deep blue, blending in the centre up to the middle, then used a bright pink blending in from the edge and overlapping the blue. I messed up on the last rotation, blending the pink in the centre and the blue at the edge, but I think it turned out kind of cool – a happy accident!
These two colors together go perfectly with holographic cardstock, so I grabbed a sheet and die cut the stitched hexagon from the Warmest Wishes Perfect Cuts dies. I then stamped the ‘Stay Positive’ sentiment from the Warmest Wishes stamp set in black pigment ink, heat embossed with Clear EP, then die cut it with the coordinating circle die for the same Perfect Cuts set. I mounted it with foam tape onto the hexagon and used another layer again to mount the entire piece into the centre of the ink blended panel.
My next card uses a similar color scheme as before, but I am using the Sacred Lotus stencil. -This is actually a set of three stencils, in different sizes. For two of the stencils, I continued to use the 8inch Guide, but the smaller stencil requires the 4inch. It’s really easy to swap out in the base, and I just love the fun overlapping effect you get. (Of course you can overlap any of the stencils, but these are designed to go together). Don’t you just love that star effect created in the middle!?
For my sentiment I used the You Are My Inspiration Shadow dies. This is a two die layering set, which I die cut from white cardstock for the base, and holo cardstock for the top, then adhered them together. I couldn’t bare to cover up the cool star effect in the centre so mounted it on foam tape off to the side for a graphic look.
My final card features the Floral Wreath stencil. This is like magic! The end result is a beautiful interlocking wreath that works perfectly – you’d never know from looking at the stencil itself. I was amazed. You can ink blend each of the images different colors or shades. I used red and pink, and two shades of green. There’s a dot in the centre so you can always rotate perfectly – which by the way I didn’t even notice until half way through and it STILL all lined up. I NEED the other stencils like this one. Imagine all the colors and effects you can get doing this.
I wanted to keep this one layer, so I stamped directly onto the centre using the Heart sentiment from the Heartfelt Notes stamp set in black pigment ink. I also added some green glitter and pale gold Nuvo Drops for a little embellishment here and there.
