Hi everyone! I have been SO excited for today’s release and blog hop I could barely contain it. Altenew is releasing brand new product line – Dreamy Bouquet Fabric!! Even if you can’t sew, you can certainly use it on cards or scrapping projects, it’s absolutely stunning! I’m excited to share my inspiration project with you today and be sure to hop along and see all the other fun things the designers have created – I already had a sneak peak and WOWZA – thanks to Linda Westfall for sending you over to my blog as part of the today’s hop. If you just landed here first, head over to the Altenew Card Blog to start at the beginning. You don’t want to miss any of these! Today’s blog hop has prizes for commenting along the way so stayed tuned for the details.

The Fabric Collection comes in a set of five different patterns, each a ‘fat quarter’ (approx 18″ x 21″). This is a perfect size for most smaller stitching projects, and I was able to make an envelope pillow cover for my 15″ square pillow with two of the pieces.

Of course, I featured the beautiful floral fabric for the front of the pillow, and paired it with the gorgeous watercolor leaves on the back. I love how these two pair together.

I used a sewing machine to create my pillow. I am NOT a seasoned sewing machine aficionado by any stretch of the imagination, and can count on one hand the number of projects I’ve made with it – all around 6 years ago when my daughter was born. So this is absolutely a beginners stitching project and one that you can certainly do as a newbie to sewing machines.

I used this post/video to help guide me on making my pillow (for a 15inch square, there are also instructions for smaller/larger sizes) – I actually recovered a worn out old pillow, but you can of course buy a new insert from a hobby store.

(The video is from the wonderful Melanie Ham, who I learned everything I know about sewing from back 6 years ago, via her YouTube channel. I was incredibly saddened to hear of her passing in January this year, and thought a recreation of one of her projects would be a small way for me to say thank you to her).

I highly recommend for those of you just getting started on little sewing projects like these, a few key things that I find invaluable including a rotary trimmer for straight cuts on your fabric, a large craft mat on which to cut your fabric, and a large sewing ruler to enable accurate measurement. Of course sewing clips (or pins) and fabric scissors for your thread are also a must. But that’s really about it! If you look careful, I used a fun pale aqua thread for my stitching to match the leaves on the fabric.

The great thing about this style of cover is that it is removable and washable! The fabric from Altenew is thick enough that I didn’t need to use any additional liner fabric also!

  1. I haven’t used a sewing machine for over 45 years….I doubt I could even remember how to thread the machine!
I do love the bright colors in these fabrics. Now you’ve got me thinking about other ways I could use these fabrics to add texture to my cards. Thank you for the inspiration!

  2. 🤩Throw pillows are my jam! And yes, they are great easy projects. The pillow size allows for showcasing fully the textile design. Thanks for the inspiration Jenni!

  3. Nice project share. I like the idea for a usable item. I wasn’t sure how I’d put fabric to use in my crafting, so I’m grateful for the idea.

  4. Omigosh, your pillow is fresh, lovely, ready for Spring, etc., etc. Fabric is the last thing I would’ve anticipated for Altenew, but it is beautiful. I can make a pillow, I think.
