Happy New Year!! It’s such a joy to call in the new year with a beautiful new Build-A-Flower from Altenew – and that’s just what is happening! Today’s BAF is the super pretty Cora Louise Peony. I’ll admit I wasn’t familiar with this type of flower, but a quick google image search and WOW! so pretty. You’ll see in my cards today I took liberties with the color combos, but isn’t that what crafting is all about?!

Today’s post is part of a blog hop. You can find the full hop list and next stop at the end of this post. If you get lost, you can always circle back to the Altenew blog where the hop starts. And stay tuned for giveaways!

I created two cards with the BAF – both use similar ink colors. I actually stamped three of the main Peony bloom first, in some of my favorite ink colors before I decided how to use them on a card. I stamped the outlines in Jet Black ink, and then for the darker purple, I used the Enchanted Garden ink collection. For the brighter purple, for which I created two blooms, I used the Shades of Purple inks. In the centres on both, I used Plum ink.

For the leaves, I used Minty Mint and Sweet Leaf as well as Jet Black for the outline, then die cut them all out including the florals with the coordinating dies from the build a flower.

To finish my first card, I trimmed down a panel of patterned paper from the Essential Rock Collection 6×6 pad and adhered to a 110lb white notecard. I then mounted a bright purple and a dark purple Peony onto the panel as well as a few leaves, using foam squares. I stamped the sentiment directly onto the panel with Obsidian Pigment Ink, and scattered a few pink and clear sequins to finish.

For my second card, I created the background using a panel of kraft cardstock. I mixed some of the Wisteria ink with a little embossing paste and swiped it with a palette knife using the Mixed Sprinkles stencil, then set it aside to dry. I love that pale purple against the kraft.

When the panel was dry, I mounted it to a white card, and then adhered a single Peony and leaves with foam squares. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock with Obsidian ink and trimmed it out, the mounted it with foam tape.

On both of the cards I added some extra detail on the stamens using black and gold gel pens.

  9. This stamp set Peony doesn’t look like the Peonies in my garden and seems to lend itself to many color choices. Maybe because it’s petals are wide open. I like the idea of adding the raised sprinkle on the background.
