Happy Sunday! While you’re hopefully relaxing this Sunday morning, grab a cuppa and hop along with us as we celebrate the new Paint-A-Flower release from Altenew! This month, the featured florals are Spider Mums! If you arrived here from the AMAZING Erum’s blog, you’re on the right path, stay tuned for the next stops and details of a giveaway!

Before I get to my card, I wanted to mention that Altenew is also releasing an Apron!! Here’s a close up look at it. I have been wearing mine for crafting (and cooking – shh) and love it – great big pockets at the front which are super handy for putting things you need to grab throughout cardmaking ( have my tweezers and masking tape in there!), and stops you messing up your clothes (I have so many jeans with permanent glitter paste on them!)

I absolutely love the print (recognise the set?!) too!

So onto my card. I decided to heat emboss the floral image before I watercolored it. The Spider Mums image is super detailed so I was sure to use a Superfine grade of embossing powder.

I used white embossing powder on hot press watercolor cardstock. I then used Altenew’s Watercolor Brush Markers (the colors from the Winter Wonderland Set) to color in the image, using the full depth of the color and blending out with a lighter color of brush marker. I also used the Silver watercolor brush maker in the set to go around the edge and in the gaps, then fussy cut it out, leaving a border. I used the Silver because I’m going to back the Mums onto Silver cardstock and this will help me avoid fussy cutting those tiny stems!

I stamped the sentiment on vellum in embossing ink and heat embossed with a red-orange toned embossing powder to match the orangey color in florals (I used Metalline Flame by WOW!) and trimmed out a strip, wrapping it around an A2 trimmed panel of thick matte silver embossed cardstock from my stash, securing at the back with tape. I then adhered it to a white notecard. I popped the Spider Mums over the top with foam squares – you can see how well that Silver watercolor brush marker allows the trimmed out piece to blend in!

  6. What a clever idea to use the silver pen to avoid the mess of cutting narrow stems then trying to get the foam tape behind them. It looks lovely.
