Hi Folks! Did you catch the free digital stamp and coloring class over at Power Poppy + Kit & Clowder? It’s a gorgeous rose and a wonderful starter image to start practicing your coloring!

I printed out the rose onto cold press watercolor cardstock and watercolored the image using pan watercolors. When I finished I was going to leave it at that – I even trimmed it out and put it on a card – but I thought I’m going to give it a go with the pencil coloring – and I’m so glad I did! This turned out much better than I thought and was such good practice with the open petals. I used oranges and yellows, with some darker red in the corners to add contrast. I think the watercolor base is helpful to avoid that ‘white area fear’ that i can get with a large image to pencil color (it does take a while) but you definitely don’t need to do this. The class by K&C is of course fabulous.

My card base is a panel of sage green shimmer cardstock I got in a Hero Arts card kit a lonnng time ago, dry embossed using embossing ink inside the the embossing folder and then heat embossing. I used WOW! Embossing Primary Chartreuse. It fills in the wells and creates a fun look.

I mounted the rose on foam tape onto the panel, leaving the stem loose to enable me to slip the vellum strip behind it. I heat embossed this wonderful sentiment from the Geraniums Take Two stamp set in WOW! Metalline Kiwi Krush onto vellum, cut a strip slipped it under the stem and wrapped it around the panel. After securing it with double sided tape, I popped it onto a notecard.

Be sure to head on over and check out the class, I can’t recommend it enough!

Jenny
