I’m super excited to be teaming up with Justine Hovey today as part of her April Collaboration Series. We’ve both created a video showing how to use foil on your card projects. I have five ways here, and Justine’s video shows you a few more ways! Be sure to head on over to YouTube and check it out!

My first way features the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil Machine, using both the hot foil plates and ordinary dies. I’m using cotton cardstock from CutCardStock.comas it is great for letterpress type effects like you get with these machines.

I used the Spellbinders Everyday Sentiments along with Iridescent foil for the centre sentiment, and the Radial Hearts coverplate from Altenew for the main image. I finished it with some Aspen sequins by Catherine Pooler.

My second card uses alcohol ink foiling. I created a background with alcohol inks on Yupo cardstock using Indigo, Wild Plum and Aqua along with Alcohol Ink Blending Solution. I pushed around the ink with a Distress Marker Spritzer and then pushed WOW! Fab Foil in Rose Gold over the top. It will adhere to the ink where it is still slightly sticky.

I then die cut the Yupo with the Altenew Mega Hello die, as well as some pink adhesive craft foam and glued them together. I added it to a white notecard along with one of the hot foiled sentiments, and scattered some Nuvo Crystal Gems.

My third card uses Minc Toner Pen to stencil on an image. You can push the pen through the stencil (or if you’re skilled at lettering, just free style it!) to create toner stencilled images which can then be foiled with a laminator or Minc machine.

I used Alexandra Renke Lotus Ornament stencil(mine is from Topflight Stamps), along with the absolutely gorgeous Decofoil Rainbow Shattered Glass foil.

The foil didn’t quite stick in a couple of places because I hadn’t had enough toner pen there, you do have to keep pushing down the nib to ensure the nib continues to flow. I finished it with a hot foiled sentiment over the top.

My next card uses WOW! Bonding powder to adhere foil. It works just like embossing powder, and can be foiled when hot. I first stamped the Erin Lee Creative background with embossing ink and heat embossed it with the WOW! Bonding Powder on cotton Navy cardstock.

I’ve done a video before showing how you can use Bonding Powder without a lamintor, it gives a slightly distressed look. You can use it with your laminator or Minc too – I ran it through with Brutus Monroe Silver Sketch foil and look how fabulous it turned out! You can foil all your stamps in this way!

I simply added a hot foil sentiment (this one used Spellbinders Rose Gold foil).

My final way uses Heidi Swapp Minc Reative Mist. I like to spatter this onto light grey Dolphin cardstock. You need to leave this to dry for a long time, until it goes clear (I recommend overnight if possible). You can then foil it. I ran it through my Minc with the Silver Sketch foil again. It squished down the drops (a little of mine was still slightly wet) and gives a fun abstract look.

To finish the card, I added a navy die cut (Mesmerizing Mandala by MFT) popped up on foam tape, with one of the hot foiled sentiments.

And that finishes my five ways to foil on your projects! Thanks so much to Justine for having me collaborate with her this month – super fun! Be sure to head on over to her channel and blog to check out the additional ways to foil!
