Timeout Challenges | Home Sweet Home | Modern Acrylic Paint Background

Hi Everyone!

There is still time to play along with our current Time Out Challenge where it is our regular Home Sweet Home theme challenge.  The photo inspiration for this challenge can be found at the bottom of this post.   I was inspired by the abstract art on the wall in the photo, and wanted to try and recreate it on a card.

This was actually surprisingly easy to do.  I first trimmed a panel of Canson XL watercolor cardstock to slightly larger than an A2 card front, and taped it down to a board.  I then squeezed some Tumbled Glass Distress Paint and White Gouache by Windsor & Newton onto a craft mat.  I used a large round brush to first swipe the Tumbled Glass over the panel, keeping it very thick (including some thicker blobs in some places), to cover the entire panel.

I then did the same with the white, swiping only in places, and blending it slightly in some parts, to get different graduations of blue and white.  I then left it to fully dry. When dry, I removed the tape and trimmed the edges to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and adhered it directly to a 110lb white card base.

My card is a birthday card for my 7 year old stepson Hank.  I created a 7 on the front with some thick cord from my stash, which I thought looked similar to the basket weave at the bottom of the photo. I then overlaid the top part with a sentiment by CZ Design heat embossed in white on grey cardstock, and popped up on foam tape.

I hope you like the card – I was going for cool and modern and I’m please with how it turned out.  I might try and do it again on a big scale and hang it on the wall like the inspiration photo!
