Hi Everyone!

Welcome to day 4 of the Catherine Pooler Designs Zen Garden release blog hop!  The release is available now in the Catherine Pooler Store!  Today we are showcasing the Stained Glass Coverplate die, and the Faithful Flutterings stamp set.  Read to the end of the post to see how you can win a prize by joining us on this hop, all supplies used are listed at the end of the post.

I have three cards for you today, including a video!

Project 1 – Dimensional Foiling

This is a simple card with an amazing result that uses foiling. I created a video to show you how I made it.  You can find it below and on my YouTube channel (if you want to subscribe!)

Project 2 – Stained Glass Window using Nuvo Jewel Drops

This project was a bit of a labor of love.  If you follow me on YouTube or my blog, you’ll know I like to create a Stained Glass look with dies and Nuvo Drops.  Well, when I saw the new Stained Glass coverplate designed for Catherine by Julie Mogford I just HAD to do this technique.  It’s a full A2 size coverplate so it takes a little longer than normal but it’s SO worth it.

To create this piece, which now hangs in the window of my craft room 🙂  I die cut the coverplate five times out of thick 110lb white cardstock.  I popped out the pieces with a craft pick and adhered three of them together with spray adhesive.  I then laid the piece down on my non-stick craft mat and dropped in Nuvo Jewel Drops in Pale Periwinkle, Grey Mist and Rosewater into the wells . Use your craft pick to drag out the drops if they don’t quite fill in the corners.   I then left it to dry on the mat (I leave them overnight).  If you find any cracking occurs or ‘sinkage’ (where the drops flatten too much in the wells) you can simply go back in and add more drops. As we are going to add cover pieces, you don’t have to be super careful.

Once fully dry, I peeled the piece off the craft mat.  The back will be perfectly smooth, but I like the bumpy look on the front – like real Stained Glass 🙂  I adhered a fourth die cut to the back of the piece.  I covered the fifth piece with Versamark Ink and heat embossed with Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder.   I then re-covered in Versamark and heat embossed a second layer.  This gives the cool look that imitates the old lead outlines on real stained glass windows.  Before adhering, I added some silver ribbon at the top with glossy accents, then adhered my heat embossed piece over the top.   As I wanted this to have an inspirational message, I die cut the ‘create’ die from the new release 3 times from black cardstock, adhered together, and then adhered to the window with liquid glue (Ranger Multi Medium Matte).   I love how this turned out!

Project 3 – Using a Die as a Stencil and Layering Embossing Powder

For my final project, I created a stencil using the coverplate die, by die cutting some thick (110lb) cardstock with it.

I adhered the stencil to a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″ using removable spray adhesive.  I liberally spritzed the  background with shimmery sprays including golds, purples and blues that matched closely to the new inks. I dried with my heat tool and then slowly peeled off the ‘stencil’ (it probably won’t be reusable when using sprays).

To create the butterfly, I stamped the solid wings of the smaller butterfly from Faithful Flutterings in Versamark ink and heat embossed in white (make sure to use a powder tool!) For the second butterfly stamp layer, I heat embossed using silver embossing powder, and for the third I used Wow Macaroon for a hint of blue.   I stamped the sentiment and the body of the butterfly in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  The embossing powder melts together and creates a lovely mottled, almost enamel type look.  To finish, I popped the panel up on craft foamm using double sided tape, and adhered to a 4.25″ x 11″ card base, scored at 5.5″.
