Hi everyone,
I hope you’re enjoying the weather wherever you are – I most certainly am not! As I type this it is currently 3 degrees fahrenheit outside (-16 Celsius!!) and falling – it’s supposed to get to -5 F tonight (-21C) and our propane heating system is struggling ($$$ boooo)! There are blankets, slippers and fleeces everywhere tonight!
Our theme this week at AAA Cards is sequins! Once again, the kind folks at Happy Little Stampers have sponsored our challenge and you could win $20 to spend in their store!!! With Valentine’s Day tomorrow I thought I would stick with my heart theme and made a card for my husband.
With the online card class on watercolouring and the craze for Daniel Smith paints, I also decided to watercolour this card. I used Strathmore 500 Series watercolour paper and using clean, clear water, painted a square on my card.
I used a Spellbinders nesting heart die to VERY faintly (as paint traps pencil and makes it hard to erase) trace a heart shape so I knew how big to make the square. I then added two colours of Daniel Smith paints in a wash across the square, using Duochrome Aqua (it sparkles and is BEAUTIFUL) and Primatek Rhodenite Genuine (so far my favourite) ensuring to overlap them in the middle. I also spattered some paint around the card and left it to dry.
Once dry, I added Pretty Pink Posh 4mm sequins in sparkling clear using Ranger Multi Medium Matte around the outline of the heart. I overlapped the pencil so that it could not be seen. I’d had this idea for a while in the hope that the sparkling clear would refract the light and the paint and it worked (although it is really hard to see this in the pictures). This was actually quite quick to do. Originally I was going to fully fill in the heart with sequins but I thought it looked better as is.
To finish the card I added a simple ‘love’ sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black ink from The Ton’s ‘Vintage Frames’ stamp set (yes this is coming out for every card now!), trimmed the paper to 4.5″ x 4.5″ and popped it up on fun foam onto a 5″ x 5″ white card base. Inside I added two DCWV rub-on sentiments using my bone folder, from an old set I had from Michael’s. The colours matched perfectly and I LOVE the quote in pink (I believe it is Emily Dickinson but I could be wrong).
I do hope you’ll join us in playing along and check out all the fab inspiration the Design Team has as well. Remember there is $20 at Happy Little Stampers up for grabs, and who doesn’t love sequins!!!
Hope you’re all keeping warm tonight!!! Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
Jenny
Oozing sheer femininity and elegance jenny! I've been swooning over this one for weeks;-) and love everything about it. So CAS and adorably effective! X
Ohhhhhhh! Soooo pretty, Jenny! I love it!
Gorgeous! I love everything about it – your clever watercolouring, your colour choices, the sequin heart and that beautiful heartfelt verse inside. And keep wrapping up warm and enjoy looking out at the cold!
I love the softness of the watercolouring and that the sequins take on each one of those colours. Lovely card!
So pretty Jenny! Your watercolouring is gorgeous and I can only imagine how those sparkly sequins refract the light IRL! It is very cold here too – today was -25C… I can't really complain too much though since we have been quite spoiled with warm weather so far this winter. Stay warm! Jill
love your watercoloring and the sequin hearts, what military precision, is superb!
delightful!
So pretty x
This is absolutely gorgeous x
Jenny, this is such a gorgeous creation. Love the colors you chose and the way they overlap, the spatters, the sequined heart. That tiny sentiment packs a punch, and the sentiment inside is beautiful. Today promises to be tropical as compared to the day you spoke of in your post. We were at the beach that night and the bay was frozen… that does not happen often!
