It’s Paint-A-Flower time from Altenew!! This month’s gorgeous bloom is the Magnolia Rustica Rubra! It’s a gorgeous floral and its true to life pinky colors are just gorgeous – perfect for watercoloring. You should have been sent my way by Carol Hintermeier! This is a great floral PAF for beginners to watercolor – I find really wide open space is easier to color. One of my favorite ways to color is to use inks and water – I used Canson XL coldpress watercolor cardstock, and then heat embossed the Magnolia onto an A2 panel using Antique Silver Embossing Powder.
I then smushed some purple Crisp Dye Inks from the Shades of Purple ink set and spritzed them with water using my Fine Mister. I picked up the ink with my paint brush and added it to the petals, pulling out with a wet brush.
I used darker purples to go back in and add layers for contrast, and then used Warm Sunshine ink in the centres and Espresso for the branch. The leaf is Firefly. I added lots of splatters with the purple shades, and then also with the yellow – I love how it bleaches the floral petals where it lands.
I finished by stamping the sentiment in Obsidian Pigment Ink and then adhered the panel to a white notecard.
