Hi everyone! Have you checked out the new Paint Your World Collection by Vicky Papaioannou for Spellbinders yet? Oh my. It’s SO GOOD. Like genius in terms of its design. It uses brushes and art palettes as the base design, and then adds scatterings of butterflies and florals and leaves. Just so perfect – and so much fun to create with. I have two projects today to share, and I loved that I was able to combine these products with Distress Inks in a fun way – as if the dies had been ‘painted’ by the paintbrush!

My first card (on the right) features the Butterfly Burst set. I first created my background, using a panel of watercolor cardstock, smushing Distress Inks down onto a plastic surface, spritzing with water, then swiping and dabbing (or smushing) the cardstock (also spritzed with water) through it. I then dryed it and repeated. I used Pink Flamingo, Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron, Wilted Violet and Squeezed Lemonade inks. I tried to keep the area towards the bottom plainer. I also splattered it with a Midas Touch Nuvo Gold Pen.

I then die cut all my images – I die cut several of the butterflies, and the the paintbrush hairs x 4 all from watercolor cardstock. I die cut the butterfly bodies from Gold Mirror cardstock, as well as the brush tip and base. The main handle is die cut from kraft cardstock. I adhered the brush handle together, and added two of the hair bundles behind the gold brush base. I then added a layer of foam tape and added the second two, getting a ‘bushier’ brush.

I inked up the butterflies with the same colors of Distress Inks with a wet paintbrush, leaving three butterflies white. I also added paint to the paintbrush hairs, and added the gold shimmer pen over butteflies and hairs. I added the bodies and folded up the wings.

To pull my card together, I adhered the brush with a double layer of foam squares at an angle. I then arranged the white butterflies towards the bottom with glue/foam tape, and the colored butterflies cascading through the painted brush and up the card, as if they were painted as they flew through the ink.

My sentiment is from the newly released Celebrate You Glimmer plates, glimmered in Matte Gold onto White Gloss cardstock, and trimmed out. I adherd it over the top of the brush handle, tucking under a butterfly wing. To finish, I added a scattering of Crystal Mix Gemstones.

My second card features the Artful Tulip. This has the paintbrush acting as a vase for tulips! Love. I took the same approach as before, die cutting the paintbrush hairs and leaves/flowers from watercolor cardstock, and the brush from kraft and gold mirror, adhering together like before. I painted the tips of the brush with Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet and Seedless Preserves.

I used the same ink colors, plus Lucky Clover to paint the leaves and flowers. When dry, I also inked the edges using the edges of the ink pads to add more depth and dimension.

For my background, I added a wash of water on watercolor paper, and dropped in some Wilted Violet, and a little Lucky Clover here and there, letting it blend together. When dry, I adhered the paintbrush with foam tape, and then added a few green and purple splatters just at the top to look like a ‘paint flume’ coming off the top . I then arranged my tulips and leaves into the top of the paintbrush just like a vase.

To finish, I glimmered another Celebrate You sentiment in Matte Gold and adhered it over the top of the handle. I scattered a few more Crystal Mix Gemstones here and there and splattered a little gold shimmer pen to finish.

You should definitely check out all the projects you can from the designers for this collection – there’s some absolutely gorgeous inspiration, and they’re so much fun to style and ‘paint’ with.
