Hi folks! I’ve been taking a much needed break from work this week, enjoying a staycation in New York and schoolcation with the kids. Today we learned about spirals and did some coloring. I chose to color the new additions to the Whimsical & Wild Collection by Jane Davenport for Spellbinders. My daughter Ruby chose them and after photographs she’s asked me to put them in her room where all her favorite cards go – she just loved the fantasy look, and I really love those inspirational sayings for her bedroom.

The two stamp sets I’m using are Brave Bear and Horse Hug. I decided to color them in fantasy colors that matched, with one in a night sky, and one with a deep pink almost sunset sky.

I stamped both of them onto cold press watercolor cardstock in waterproof black ink. I only stamped the image at this time, leaving the sentiment to the very end. On both cards, I first did a wash of color on the images using Altenew pan watercolors.

I then used my Stabilo Point 88 fine tip markers to add some ‘nooks and crannies’ (it is during The Daily Marker 30 Day coloring challenge after all) and pull out some of the color with a wet paintbrush to add dimension.

I also added a wash to the background by first wetting it with clean water with a large brush and on the Brave Bear, added a wash of blues, and on the Horse Hug, a wash of pink. I then left to dry.

Once dry, I started to add details. I added shadows, and some gold and white gel pen for highlights. On the Brave Bear, I used some Black Soot Distress Ink to add some dark night sky with a blending brush, and then loosely masked the bear and splattered on some white acrylic paint, water, and sparkle spray to create a night sky. I stamped the sentiment in black ink over the top, and added the heart pendent into the girl’s hand. For extra contrast, I also went around all of the images with a micron .03 black pen.

On the Horse Hug, I splattered some Altenew Antique Gold spray, and also stamped the sentiment in purple and pink ink. I also added some stars stamped from the set in black ink, and then added gold and white gel pen. You’ll also notice that I added some more details in the horse’s mane, and scattered some gray spots for a dappled coat. I then popped both of the panels up onto card bases, snapped some photos and my daughter ran off with them!!

I hope they brighten your day!
