I’ve been having a bit of a watercolor kick in front of the TV recently. With all the staying in, I’ve decided to turn my movie watching into less of a ‘what’s on’ and more looking towards ‘top 50 movies’ lists to see if I can watch some good ones. The Radio Times recently published this one, and so I recently watercolored to Trainwreck (rude, funny) and Molly’s Game (awesome). Here’s the output from the latter – a no line watercolor of Saucer Magnolia from Power Poppy.
I wasn’t sure what color to make the magnolia -Saucer Magnolia seem more commonly pinky-white, but I wanted to do something even paler, so went for a super pale wash of bue-green-grey and some yellow tips against a pale brown branch.
I printed the image out using the pale gray scale version for no line color – and I embedded the sentiment from the digital stamp, printed in one go onto Arches cold press watercolor cardstock.
I dropped the pale blue into the corners and yellow on the tips, keeping it very watered down for a pale look. When dry I went back in and added a little bit of a deeper color for contrast. I also added some splatters over the top, as well as white acrylic paint splatters.
To finish, I trimmed down the panel and popped it up onto a white cardbase. I went over the sentiment with a black fineliner and added some Pretty Pink Posh Dew Drops to finish.
