Altenew has a brand new monthly subscription – the Paint-A-Flower! Today we’re celebrating the inaugural release featuring the Paint-A-Flower: Poppy with a Blog Hop and Giveaway which i’m thrilled to be part of! You should have arrived here from the amazzzzing Jaycee’s blog. If you get lost, the full hop list is at the end of this post along with details of prizes you can win!

The new Paint-A-Flower stamp sets are released monthly and celebrate the beauty of a wide variety of flowers! Each stamp set features an outline image of a gorgeous floral arrangement, just waiting to be painted or colored with your favorite medium. There’s no need for you to spend time layering and masking images, as Altenew have designed these sets to allow you to stamp once then color!

Today I have two cards to share. My first one uses heat embossing and Altenew’s Watercolor Brush markers to create a paint explosion! I’ve created a video which you can check out on my YouTube or here.

I really wanted to go bold with this image, that’s the fun of the wide open line art – you can go for hyper-realistic if you’re so inclined, or whimsical, or messy with bright colors like I’ve done here – just have fun!

You can purchase the Paint-A-Flowers individually, or as I mentioned there is a monthly subscription available for the Paint-A-Flower, with some savings!

My second card features the main Poppy image stamped three times. I stamped the first image towards the bottom left of a card panel of watercolor cardstock with Altenew Vanilla Cream ink for a no line coloring look. I then stamped onto masking paper, trimmed it out and masked my first poppy, before repeating the stamping and masking twice more to create a little poppy ‘field’. I also added in some of the extra leaf sprigs in and around the poppies to build up a ‘frame’ around the sides.

I colored the poppies with the Altenew’s 36 Watercolor pan and a traditional brush, using hot press watercolor cardstock, building up the layers. I also went in and added some details using a couple of colored pencils in red and green, and some white gel pen for highlights.

I went around the background with some very pale brown and added some splatters for good measure. I wanted this to look loose, but a little more realistic than my first card. I stamped a greeting in black ink and as a finishing touch, added some black crystal brads for the poppy centres for something a little different!
